The cobalt is only competition if you are a high school girl… and you like driving a rental car every day (not syaing it breaks, reffering to quality)
people who complain about the whp seem to forget that this is RWD. And did you see the exhaust restrictions? I wouldn’t be surprised they limited this engine a lot so it doesn’t get into the v6 territory.
RWD > FWD anyday
:eyebrow:
OMGZ displacement vs HP debate
my stock 1999 4cyl turby put down 258 hp and 272TQ with a new transmission(used) and 5 owners later:picard:
My Firebird rated at 305 put down 340with headers/intake…so its safe to assume it dynoed 305 stock
OMG FACTORY FREAK!
If you honestly think the interior of the Genesis is that much better then the Cobalt then you and I have vast differences of what an interior should be in a sports car.
That is what this is talking about right? A sports car; a quick, light, well handling car no?
Just checking, both cars have cheapo plastic interiors I don’t care if one plastic is more contoured with tighter fits then the other, they are both shitty plastic.
I guess I’d rather be a high school girl passing the bros in the Genesis…
(I think your comparison of a girl driving a Cobalt is funny coming from a Hyundai Tiburon guy. :P)
and i think you talking about the merits of interior quality is funny coming from a corvette guy…
I hate Hyundais just as much as I hate cobalts, as a neutral 3rd party, the genesis interior is much better.
I guess the real test is how the engine holds up when you start cranking up the boost.
isn’t the engine based off of the Mitsubishi engine not the evo but the one below it?
koreans have already seen ~ 500 WHP with 35r’s and pistons
yea, cept this one is an open deck, where as teh evo is semi closed… .
Whom also has a M3 as a Daily
Do you think this block will be the limiting factor, such as some of the for 302s?
Split personality?
How does the rest of the car hold up to 500hp? Subframe/tranny/rear end etc…
Its Korean which means its based off of everything on the market today that can be easily changed enough to avoid any patent/copyright lawsuits!
I’m impressed so far…
no. this engine is a group effort between mitsu, hyundai and chrysler and all of them are using it with different manifolds and small changes. i heard that mitsu did some different portwork and vvt though.
the evo, the caliber SRT and the genesis coupe should have similar strength engines. caliber gets the 2.4L turbo version. wonder if that would swap into the genesis coupe.
Brian
why are you guys comparing a genesis to a cobalt ss? how about sticking with a a direct competitor like a solstice or a sky? (which will be short lived) but as a direct competitor way better lb/hp and same format fr.
how are the solstice and sky a direct competitor? cobalt seems right to me
cobalt is in the same price range but again, its fwd.
You have to think of a cheap, RWD, TURBO coupe that can compare to this car. I can’t think of any.
