Just curious if any of you know if it would be possible to put a V8 into a 06 Cadillac cts with a 3.6. I know it’d be better off buying a V but if its something that is possible and won’t cost an arm and a leg, id be willing to do the work.
It wont pass a NY inspection but it can be done, although not cost effective. You would basically need a complete parts car for the swap.
sure it could pass, and it can be done.
but its not feasable, by anymeans.
Sell it and find the one you want.
anything can be done
PM boxersix last I knew he had a smashed up CTSV for 16k
dont be dumb.
buy one that has a 8 in it… You can get cts-v’s now in the mid-high teens.
It’s impossible
Give up
Worst build thread ever

It was just a question, this isn’t a build thread but figured this was the right spot on the forum to ask such a question. I tried looking it up online but couldn’t get a straight answer. I know that anything can be done with the right amount of money, I was just simply asking if it was possible to swap without paying a ridiculous amount.
JSE - I don’t believe that anything is impossible, with the right amount of money and tools anything can be possible.
buttt you would have more money into converting that car to a V8 then it would cost to sell it and get a cts-v.
I never understood swapping a factory motor into a car that came as a option.
Which is the reason why I started this topic, to find the answers that weren’t exactly as straight forward on any other site. Now that I see there’s no point, I won’t even bother attempting or even thinking about the idea anymore.
At the end of the day by the time you buy the car, buy a motor, all the time, stress and all the little stupid things you need to buy, your better off just going out and buying a new one
In some situations it makes sense. For example my accord was available in other markets with a 200hp 2.2L high revving twin cam, as opposed to the 130-145hp single cams that are available in the US. Came out of the same factory in Ohio as my car, then got shipped overseas.
Another example is if you have already done most of a build on your car. Although it would have made more sense to start with the engine you wanted.
But if you have a relatively stock car, and there are many examples of the same car with the engine you want on the market, you’re right, it doesn’t make sense.
turbo the v6
People do it for insurance reasons too. It’s common with my car (RSX) apparently the Type-S is a good bit more expensive to insure so people swap the type-s motor into the base pretty frequently. That way they get the added performance but the insurance company assumes you have the base still and charges for that. I haven’t looked into how long before the money you spend on the swap is paid off with insurance savings though haha.
For someone in the “high risk” insurance demographic (read: 18-25 year old male), probably not all that long.
I’m pretty sure it’s 18-26. I know when I turned 27 my rates dropped significantly.
Age 25 auto insurance rates tend to go down
Maybe it was when I turned 26. I dunno once I hit 21 the years seemed to start blending together.
This does not always happen, people start to get better rates around this age but it also has to do with experience, someone who gets there license at 25/26 will still have higher rates. So it really depends on if you started driving at 16 or later, also some insurance companies don’t discount because of age at all.
If you really want a discount…get married. Then your insurance will go down quite noticeably.
