Praxair is a good company. They are a customer of ours since we manage their phone systems in a bunch of their sites all over the US. I have heard tho that their pay and benefits blow.
I like it here so far… I have a lot to learn though
and Fry has a pink office.
 Fuck you!
I just accepted an offer from there and they blew me away with the number they threw at me
Congrats!
Hmm, time for a roll call. This is getting a little nutty.
Are you guys all engineers? They might take better care of you guys since you are their core business than the IT people I have talked to.
All I have to say is be careful how hard you try to negotiate… I know myself personally I get turned off quick by pre-madonnas when hiring.
I’m figuring I will just accept it…
It’s probably a short term anyway.
so… this is a question that I don’t expect an answer to.
How do gas prices effect Moog?
Not that I would be at all excited about driving 40 minutes to and from work…
But the medical is SOOOOO much better.
well, to put it into perspective… I have around a 70mile drive round trip for work (about a 45 min drive each way) and spend approx 120.00 a week on fuel
Boeing wanted me to call up NYPA and retract their offer. And pay me less to help develop coatings for their newest death machine. That sure was a great email.
What an ethical HR person that was. yikes.
$520/month in gas I’d move closer to work.
To get back on topic, consider the driving distance when taking a job, but also consider if the pay difference is enough that you could move closer even if it wasn’t enough to offset the gas cost.
More true if you’re renting than if you’ve bought a home.
A few of my friends here work at Boeing and seem to like it. But lets be serious brah does NYPA have those cool shiny windows on their building because Boeing does and that meand they are the coolest!
I jog or ride a bike to work every day unless it is crazy outside or I have too much to carry. So does my sister, and my dad does a few days a week in the summer as well. Must run in the family.(pun intended)
I threw together a spreadsheet on fuel cost and salary to relate
to locations X miles away from me at Y gas prices, and Z fuel economy.
Then came up with a theoretical hourly wage after commute expenses.
On top of that, i charged my hourly rate for the added time I would be driving to give myself some net gain number I would like to see.
I kinda like my kids, so there is no way to put a price on it. It turns out my break even point in terms of mileage is a good deal more than they offered.
Even incorporating savings because of benefits.
Long story short, they would really have to overpay me for me to justify my increased expense. (justify, as in get me to leave my current new job)
You never know… Maybe they low balled me.
No. Because Luke Moretti is watching O_O
