WTF. Well if you can’t run we should just focus on crushing a few beers I suppose.

Ran 11 miles yesterday at 9:23 min/mile. Took a bunch of ibuprofen prior to leaving to see if it would help my hips. It took the edge off just enough for me to just cruise through it, but I’m worried about causing more damage as I get up in mileage. I’m really hoping that as I continue training (and only use ibuprofen for long runs) it starts to go away. :frowning:

Does it hurt after you run or just during? I saw I was supposed to do 11 on the schedule but only did 10.25 cause i was almost home and ran so fast so i was kinda beat lol.

I just had a great swim. Think I am doing an Olympic Tri Aug 26th. Kablammy

So anyone doing the ronald 5k wed? I am planning on it.

Yup

Hmm maybe…Been a century since I ran, but I did that one last year I believe.

Ronald McDonald run is this week? Maybe I oughta get out to that. Been working on getting in shape for a beach vacation anyway.

Hurts during. Not so much when I stop.

Pffffft everything hurts DURING you only need to worry if it hurts after duh. disclaimer this is probably not true

lol. Well with the ibuprofen, it’s not terrible and I can get through it without affecting my form. Once that happens, I’ll really need to figure out what’s causing it.

Seems like you should try to correct it now before it stops you, since you’re training for a marathon right? Throw some science at it. Go get looked over by a PT. A quick exam for weak spots plus some targeted exercises may fix this sort of thing right quick. Don’t try to fix shit with chemicals before you’ve tried to fix it with movement. Or at least go to fleet feet and have them check out your gait. Maybe some different shoes would tweak your stride just right.

Disclaimer: I’ve never run more than 4 miles in my life, nor do I have any desire to run more than that. If anything manages to chase me that far then has earned the right to eat me. So I may have no idea what I am talking about.

When you start running far like 10+ miles especially when it is new to your body/training…things are going to hurt. Not saying totally ignore it. But come on we aren’t trotting around the block here.

I’d also recommend not wearing briefs or boxer briefs when running distance. Elastic and tons of movement = cuts on your legs or at least for me it did. Also make sure you’re wearing the right shoes and that they aren’t older than dirt.

My ex is a PT and didn’t see anything too messed up. A good friend who is also a PT (and co-founded RunSmart) is supposed to help out at some point to see if he notices anything. I’ve already had the shoe deal done at Runner’s Roost in OP. Next step after my PT friend is a chiropracter to make sure everything is lining up properly. I play competitive volleyball all year and have heard it can do a ton of damage to alignment since I’m always landing on one foot or off center.

Like I said, if it affects form it’s probably more serious than just a little soreness from running. I’m on the side of caution because as Fry suggested, solving the problem sooner will mitigate risk of major injury down the road. (no pun intended)

Ill be there too!

How about the Nickel City Tri on 9/15? I’ll do the Olympic with ya.

I’m totally a “boxer briefs while running” kinda guy. I find it much more comfy than commando.

Have you done anything over 6mi in it? I ran with Zac once and had cuts all over my legs.

Oh biked about 4mi+ then ran a .5 mi with the fiancee…just to get back into things.

I wear shorts with liners, or spandex. Getting up @4am to start again… been limping since the Buffalo Marathon

Ran 4 miles today at Fort Niagara in Youngstown. It involved 5-7 sprints up a big hill there then walking backwards down the hill. Also took two short breaks and did stretches while the heart rate came back down. Kicked my ass big time, didn’t think it would be that much of a pain in the ass. I keep heel striking gotta get out of that habit.
