OMG New Apple MacBook Air

youporn FTW!!

this thread blows

Macs changed to a completely different processor architecture…

This isn’t even an issue if you buy a new computer and current software.

hence the last sentence I said this

heh, ironically… I stumbled upon this. Pretty cool read if your into computers at all.

Granted the test is flawed since the hardware isn’t the same throughout but none the less.

Hackintosh (osx86) vs mac pro vs macbook pro benchmarks

I just looked at the stats… kind of funny how they mac fan boy’s instantly bitch about the hack having 4gb of ram lol

Why in the hell does the hackintosh have 4GB of RAM? Not a very fair comparison at all.

Yet there is no complaining about the MAc Pro having Dual Processors… lol

Its really amazing how bias the mac lovers really are

is iWork actually as powerful as office?

Its more powerful in some aspects, less in others. Depends what you are looking for.

I personally prefer working in iWork over Office. Once in awhile I run into something in iWork that I cannot do, or would like to do - but the positives outweigh the negatives by a long shot.

Exactly how Open Office is, very good as an alternative. Office 2007 just blows it away.

I don’t know how well iWork compares, I will google it up for the sake of curiousity. Have you tried Office 2008 or have intentions to? Another side Q I don’t know if you have a Windows machine but Office 2007 comparison with iWork?

edit: seems like it iWork and Office 03 (04 for mac) would be a decent comparision. 2007 (mac 08) would most likely be the hands down better option

Office 07 is as feature rich as they come. Im running a copy that we got through out tech net subscription and holy shit it packed with goodies.

oh I agree. It is spectacular. At first I was against it, now its just like seeing Tom Brady walk down the road in spandex biker shorts…

edt: apologies for the homo reference… this is a mac thread after all

how does it compare to 03? I can’t stand 03 personally, but it may be the way it’s setup here. Outlook seems to run slow as balls

07 is far more intuitive that was the first thing you will notice. It makes sense where things are located.

If you have used 03 you might be a little frustrated finding out where anything is located.

File sizes are greatly reduced, more functionality, Very aesthetically pleasing.

Outlook, I really don’t know my personal experience is having just outlook 07 running on a work machine which i remote to for the sole use of the calendaring. I felt the exchange setup was bullshit, but thats no different than 03

Word has somethings that I initially didn’t agree with some of the default spacings I just didn’t agree with but I’m rather picky about 1.5 spacing and 1 line spacing, so this may not bother you

Excel, simply improved again file size of xlsx was greatly reduced, and there is a good deal of added functionality that I really haven’t experienced with. It runs much faster too, calculations are cut in half (very noticeable in large spreadsheets)

Powerpoint, some slight incompatibilities with 03’ but generally just how it formats the spacings.

Groove 2007 I’ve heard is just amazing, I don’t have much experience with it though.

Infopath, One note, and Access I just don’t use.

Frontpage was omitted for obvious reasons

I’ll take a dell M2300 w/ solid state & a 14.1" screen for less thank you though

NeoOffice is a nice alternative. Looks and feels like Office, not as polished, obviously since its open source.

Just about everyone at my offices hates Office 07 FWIW

Yea weird…everyone I talked to hates it besides Excel…

Most of the companies that have plugins for Excel 07 want to stab themselves in the eye.

But alas, I can’t say I tried it.

i think what it really comes down to is that some people really don’t take well to change.

Thats cause its set up is completely different. I use it every day and love it. Im still fiding out new stuff and new ways to use it but it has a great layout.

Outlook 2007 is fucking sweet… as a concept, the to-do bar is really nice, and it looks stellar, as does the rest of the 2007 office suite.

If you don’t have a good computer it does run like dogshit though.
