Picked up a 240z

Thanks guys, it’s nice to be truely motivated to work on a car. While I love driving my 944, I havent felt like working on it in a long time. Which is why I’m concentrating on the Datsun  Glad you’re all enjoying the progress.

Not much for today, big thanks to Justin (gsx) for the help and for shooting a couple pics of me working… I heavily photoshop’d one of them. (the profile shot). Got the passenger’s side ZG flare mounted up and started working out the rears. Gonna work on them and/or the engine bay tomorrow. Pick up the KA at noon on Sunday

Went in and got a little bit of work done.

Marked, and ready to cut

Initial cutting done, I then cut the inner fender well back, and started to hammer it up in anticipation of tack welding it into place. I also put the nutserts into the proper holes but didnt have the tool to compress them, so hopefully I can get that taken care of Monday.

One rear mounted up, fronts are done and trimmed. Hopefully I’ll have this finished and the engine bay stripped and painted this week. Picking up the KA in the morning.

Since we are on this subject does anyone remember that post of a z240 package for a 240sx. I looked for the post and I couldn’t find it. It was a front end made for a 240sx that gave it a modern z240 look.
If anyone knows what i’m talking about please post or PM me the link to their website. Thanks.

Sorry I went a little off topic but I figured it’s still within the Z240 subject!

The car is looking awesome, keep the pics coming! I’m loving this thread!

Yes, it did, and I loved seeing it in the beat up, original, driving (assumed) condition. Just like I’ll be driving my 240z around this year (exterior condition wise).

This is about where I almost died when visibility got worse, as did road conditions, and there were no salt trucks or plows out, and a guy going 20mph less than me decided to pull out in front of me at the last minute. Going past 18 wheeler sideways half on the shoulder with 5 series touring loaded with parts = shit your pants scary.

Oh yeah, and I picked up a '95 KA24DE with uncut harness, all accessories, ecu, maf, trans, etc, etc.

Looks like Interstate 90?

Try driving on Interstate 81 south towards the Poconos in Snowy conditions LOL You can’t even see 15 feet ahead of you at times! Lot’s of fun!

I drive 81 atleast once or twice a month as I spend a ton of time in philly. The fog there is insane. That’s actually 71 south and it was much worse than the photos show. I travel a TON.

good looking project man, cant wait to see it at the s1dc track day next year!

holy tits! thats a nice find. i’m wayy to late to congrats on the find. haven’t been on son browsing like i used to. good choice on powerplant as theo said. ka-t is where the sex at! i wouldn’t be as happy for you if you dropped a sr20 in.to many ppl are dropping pre-turbo’d engines into their cars, and too many noobs not understanding that… RWD + turbo engine = NEED SKILLS. saying that. you putting a ka-t in, means that you know what you’re doing and producing the power that YOU obviously know that you are capable of handling. props to you.

btw. have u humped the car yet? : D

Hehe, my old Porsche track car made 400whp @ 17psi on pump gas and I was doing fine on roadcourses. I just dont need stupid power in my 240z (for now). Busy building the pcar for 600+ now, and I’ve been driving 350-550whp cars for years now, lots of experience

And no, I dont hump my car. Intercooler is here, engine is in my garage. Ordering the crossmember this week and hopefully getting the flares finished and engine bay stripped and painted. I want the engine in and running by mid next month, and the car ready for spring by the time I leave for the Sebring 12 hour (though I’d put dimes to dollars it wont be).

Oh yeah and when the 350z that dmoffitt let me drive with the S1dc guys was Twin Turbo’d.

I wish I had the video of me hanging it out on a mountain hairpin up in the mountains with an M3 chasing me. Maybe it’ll surface someday, I know it exists.

Cant wait to hang with you guys again.

Nice progress Mike!

Sebring eh? Any chance I’d bump into you at the 24 Hours at Daytona next weekend? I’m taking a week and heading down with a few guys in a motor home. Should be some memorable times. It’ll be my first time spectating an endurance race.

I wish Theo, I’ve been bouncing out on to many trips and mini vacations. Between the BlownEuroz Annual BBQ I help host in Philly and Sebring (and then track season starting shortly thereafter) I’m doing my absolute best to stay at work and save up some money right now. Have fun though, and take lots of photos!

are you going to flush the flairs into the fenders os make it so you can easly tell they have been just added on?/

I just want to know for my own future referance.

As they look is how they’ll stay, bare carbon with visible hardware.

I’m a fan of that look on certain cars, 240z, Z31, that style looks PIMP with non-frenched flares. Something like a BMW, or S14, definitely blend them in.

I look forward to seeing this thing progress. Allow me to live vicariously through you.

Any idea what you wanna run for a motor set up yet? Cams? Turbo? Header?

Stock '95 KA24DE long block
Bings.ca manifold
Bings.ca turbo elbow
deatschwerks injectors (I think I have a set of 550’s kicking around?)
T28 (though bing and I might be dealing on a disco potato)
ECU Tuning By Innovative Tuning
Cheapo intercooler core I got from a friend from his MKIII Supra

Yeah 81 can be prety bad, I usually go down to Long island and Queens New york about 4 or 5 times a year to visit family and I81, I380 and I80 around the Scranton / Pocono mountain / Delaware water gap area can get prety ugly especialy with drifting snow and high winds. In the summer I can get from Toronto to New York city in 7 hours. Last winter I hit the worst snow storm and it took me 6 hours only to get from Birmingham N.Y. to Paterson N.J. thank God I was driving a 2006 GMC Yukon! No matter what I still love driving that route for some reason, I have done it so many times I can almost do it with my eyes closed lol. Take care.

Haven’t worked on it much because “MPD is a bag”. Got working on stripping the engine bay though. Ordered a clutch, floors, subframe connectors/frame rail reinforcements, and the front subframe for the KA.

Starting to clean up, paint scraper and steel wool. I also discovered a small hole in the frame rail which you can see in the bottom right of that photo. It’s about an inch and a half long, by maybe 1/3 of an inch wide. Wont be a hard repair at all.

Progress coming along, I’d say I have the bay 60% stripped. I still have a lot of little holes that were drilled to fill and spot welds for old brackets to drill out. A significant amount of paint has been removed though. Currently my big debate is if I should remove the stock battery tray or not since the battery is being moved to one of the rear cubby holes.
