Which will happen.
Not to turn this into a major debate but every cop I know idles their car before they get in it and leaves it running all day…
When in service, yeah, but start of a shift/half decent days like the last few have been when the car won’t be idled for AC/Heat, Throttle will get matted cold.
I’m looking forward to seeing how these hold up to a few years of service. The old saab turbos and volvo turbos were fairly bulletproof.
YouTube ecoboost torcher test. They talk a lot about both cold startups from 0 deg. They start it and instantly go wot and hold it at peak tq for several hours. The entire exhaust is glowing and the shut it down hot with everything glowing. Over and over and over. Reading on the forms they are holding up extremely well. I think a g8 is about the only other vehicle I could think of that would fit the bill. And they don’t make it anymore?
The G8 is coming back at the Caprice or something under the Chevy logo. I’m interested how these Ecoboosts hold up long term as well, we shall see.
Buahahahaha This thread made my morning. Hybridevo… really? You are certainly a dumbass!! Along with everyone else calling him out on spelling, I loved that everyone was saying “your” instead of “you’re” when saying “you’re a dumb ass” (this coming froma grammar idiot)
On a side note… I’m all for these new cars they have if I were a cop. As for an alternative car, how about an STI, Yes it would be strange seeing an STI as a cop car… but, it’s 300hp, AWD, $33k range, 4 door, pulls on most cars that are stock and keeps up with all ricers, and has a fair chance of keeping a chase going with some done up cars. Just my thought. But +1 on the choice of car for them now. Only issue, its standard and not “Automagic”
:orly:
:mpd:
They do not have the best rep for their engines lasting very long. I would say they would take them out. Perhaps a lower power Wrx would prove to be more durable?
Probably wouldnt be enough power then if you went lower than the sti. But understandable with durability and having to last. I know the suspension would last for the city Cops. lol
People still think American cars can’t turn? What is this, 2001?
 and people bitching about how much cars weigh now
Also throwing out Subarus highest performance vehicle for fleet use is
I can name four … three got away.
It’s more about top speed and handling than straight line speed… If someone was dumb enough to run.
DTkim comes to mind lol
He forgot to turn… he was doing alright until then.
lol, hey it was asked which would work. Seeing it fits all the regulations… I dont see why its a bad suggestion besides the fact that mantainance would be costly. It was asked to name a car, so I did. I bet you it out performs the cars they have now and probably costs the same.
one of the requirements ford had to meet is that the car needs to be able to drive over a 8" curb at 45mph and sustain NO damage. I forget the video but one of the engineers talked about the modification to the suspension in the police package car and that they have more travel than the regular car.
Ok, so a Forester lifted sti swap. LOL I’m all for that!!!
still not automatic and still not reliable
Damned SHO being 40xxx.
alot of us police car guys speculate the engine undergoes a sort of “case hardening” by being run countless hours idling, alot of these cars go on to be bought by cab companies and run to 500k+ miles
