maybe… and mpd47, i choose this motor over the other mainly because no one has really ever done it. That or never made i online build thread. plus i like the iron block and the twin turbo part of it.
the motor makes 300hp and 280lbs, Its not crazy amount of power but its enough and its more of a statment i guess
I hate that people do swaps just because it’s never been done before. Especially when the fact remains that nobody has done it FOR A GOOD FUCKING REASON.
So basically, you’re taking a motor that is a pain in the ass to work on, when it’s in a bigger chassis, and shoe horning it into a smaller chassis for an even large maintenance nightmare… while spending more money on the motor, to make less power, with more aggravation that other alternatives. Right?
Not to mention “never really been done before” you posted photos of one where it has been done, so forget that logic (or lack thereof).
it has been done before… isnt that the whole point of wanting to upgrade or chage a car’s apperence… to be different… to do something that NO ONE ELSE has done??
Thats the way i see it anyways. i dont want to be another sr guy or rb dude. There is nothing wrong with those motors, just not for me.
no, that is not the point of an upgrade… Upgrade DOES NOT EQUAL different
well thats why i said “really” done it before. you can see it in there but there is no confirmation of it running or anything. plus that car is and has been in another country. So no one in the US, unless you count the S14 vg30dett.
and i know this motor is a pain but i looked through every aspect of how to do this and it doenst really bother me that ii would have to take out the engine to fix something. that just means more upgrades when its out or something along those lines
You guys can hate all you want. dont bother me any.
Maybe when this doesn’t work you can swap a SHO engine in.
lol
sounds good to me^^^^:bowrofl:
ricers_r’_us, read a bit of that build thread from the former owner of your car. He had the same “it’s different” idea and in the end… Well, you know the story.
While I think the VG option is a better bet than a CA anyday, an SR or RB would be the best for this car by far.
It’s your call what you do, just be aware that the road less traveled isn’t always the easiest, least expensive or performance-positive.
Check out www.SON240sx.org and ask some of the guys there what they think.
I just dont understand the logic of spending time and money building a car thats going to be a PITA to work on, for very little outcome performance wise. There are plenty cars that meet those specs available FAR cheaper and right out of the box. Hell America has been producing them for years. What is your point with this thing ?
Ill be the guy with the SR going just as fast for way less
God dammit i was going to say this
stop shitting up this guys thread everyone!
cuz uhh… that’s how you get banned
ill do that, for this project im not putting a cap on the cost, i know its going to be hard as hell, and by no means cheap. however, since there are no companys that have a kit for this it has to be like one-of-a-kind. figuratively speaking of course since its been done before.
as far as total cost here is how i broke it down.
ebay rb25 $2500
swap kit $1000
basic gaskets, timing belt and components, water pump, oil pump, flywheel, clutch, etc.
+/- $1800
so $5300 and account for small things here and there another +/- 1000
the sr swap probably go for 1-2000 cheaper… maybe idk.
vg30
ebay vg 1500
material for swap $1000(mounts, drive shaft, ect.)
(thats giving more then then enough room to buy stuff)
basic stuff as stated before $2000 +/-
so 4500 for the basics. 1000 for random stuff. still in the same price range as the other swaps. and it wont be a generic swap.
just saying
Most intelligent thing you’ve said in this thread yet.
Great motor…not a good application for it though. Hope you’re ready for hell…but, assuming you don’t mind busting your knuckles and having what’s a 20 minute job on any other car take you over an hour or two…power to ya. Time to slap some ginormous turbos on that bitch and make some serious power…the motors can handle it, so take advantage of it.
Correction…these motors with the exception of the one that was in my car can handle it. FML
Ehh, not something I’d do, but looking forward to you doing it!
Good luck with it, hope it turns out well!
Interesting, I’ll watch for updates. Good Luck
