PROJECT...ULTIMATE DOOM

300whp is rather nice for stock man. You can’t tell me that it’ll cost less to get 300whp out of an SR.

thats exactly it, NO i cant say that… looking at those prices, its a lot cheaper to reach 300whp with this aplication that an SR, let alone 450whp.

And like Adam mentioned, having local parts is a big plus !

anyone want my SR

Don’t forget about the weight differences guys; especially f/r distribution…
What’s the weight difference between the LS1 and SR anyway? including the tranny etc.

I still have a feeling that little SR would be way easier to handle around corners…

SR is about 50lbs lighter than a KA, LS1 is about 150lbs lighter than a KA. And most of the weight is in the heavy ass T-56 tranny, so the weight distribution should be even better, as well as a better CofG.

Oh come on. N/A and gobs of power out of the box.

While some of you are still waiting for your turbo to spool up, this crazy mofo will be making you eat his rubbers.

Sweet. If that’s the case, maybe I should do it myself!

By 2010, all 240SXs will be powered by LS1s

LOL

Apples and oranges for everyone comparing the LS1 to an SR or KAT. :hsugh:

Come on it’s a given the SR and KA(-T) will never equate to the LS1.
At least the SRs on this board. Why compare. :dunno:

Down low, the LS1 has us smoked, up high, I’m sure some of us here
will be able to hang on.

For the cost and reliability of an NA domestic V8 motor, plus the
availability of parts, in a fairly light, well balanced chasis, nothing can be beat.

Come on a V8 is 100lbs lighter than a 4 banger SR ?? hard to believe but if thats the case this is begining to look more like a dream swap

^^^^

Dude, my 1968 302 V8 is smaller than an SR if you measure corner to corner.

And it weighs very close to the same as an SR. Actually it works out to be lighter, because I tossed all the relay boxes, AFM, piping, wiring, etc. That stuff adds up.

As well, this mount kit is designed to place the LS1 in a favorable location. Odds are with the weight pushed back and bit and lower, the LS1 car would handle a lot better than an SRed 240, even if the motor was heavier.

Simply moving your SR back an inch and maybe down 2 would make an enormous difference.

But look at the power curve of that motor even stock! No turbo 4 is going to be able to give you that kind of a useable powerband. Even a 500hp turbo 4 would have a hard time keeping up in a drag. On a track with corners, forget about it. No lag, instant throttle response … torque. Doesn’t heat soak, doesn’t melt everything under the hood, doesn’t fall apart every other day, has billions of dollars worth of aftermarket support.

Bone stock this thing is going to be a bullet and handle a hundred times better than jamming a piggy RB in there.

ADAM made more power out of his SOHC KAT than most of you wet dream yourselves to sleep over, and this is the NEXT step. I’m pretty stoked about this. Can’t say I like the lack of carburettors on a V8, but that’s just me

hmm I’m questioning this whole “cheaper” part, seeing how the cheapest LS1 i can find so far (just for kicks) is $2500 how the hell did Adam score one for 1000 is my question.

so if this is such a great swap and there are already mounts out there to make it easy, why aren’t people doing this more often with 240’s ?

I have a feeling that it isn’t so easy to install at all and also that those engine aren’t as cheap as some people claim… I just googled it quickly and found a used one for 3000USD. I also don’t think the parts will be that cheap, just because that engine is a domestic one.

People are purists… most don’t like the idea of swapping a “low tech” domestic motor into a vehicle instead of a “high tech” jap motor…

Most people underestimate the engineering that goes into the vette motors, or they’ve just spent so much time thinking domestics are the enemy that they couldn’t fathom the idea of putting it in their import…

haha, I guess that’s another way of looking at it…

The only reason I wouldn’t do this is simply because it would cost me more than I would have in my wallet and that it would take me longer to do than planned

I think the point people are trying to make, is that it is cheaper, and quicker, then most other installs. Not to mention the added benefits of the motor and aftermarket itself.

being able to take the car to any shop, drop it off and not have them be like

WATH DAT?

is almost reason enough to drop an LS1.

all my costs that I listed are the real costs so far…the LS1 will most likely weigh in less than my turbo KAT setup…

as for power that dyno is a bit low for a stock LS1…I am hoping for about 310rwhp and about 340ftlbs…bone stock setup…

listen to this part…
with mild cam, porting, and intake manifold/throttle body…Ls1’s lay out 407rwhp…

now thats cool…

its gonna be a neat swap… you will see… will kepp you guys posted

There’s some really good info about people’s installs over at LS1tech.com, it’s not as bad as some people think.
And in terms of cost… 3500 for the motor & tranny, 1500 for the mounting kit, another 500 for the driveshaft, and lets say another 500 for the harness. That’s 6g’s flat. That IS how much an SR swap will run you, and it WILL put down less power, with a worse torque curve. You might be able to do a KA-T for less, but it will be less powerful, less reliable, etc…
