Damn that’s a hell of a dinner, and when you’re done you can keep the bone as a free dildo for the ol’ lady, good stuff
I hit another off the 50 best list last night: Campagnolo and it was pretty excellent. Very reasonably priced for the quality you get. I had a 60 day aged rib-eye for $29. I asked for Chef’s choice and it was more well done than i like it but still good. I would give it a try again. we split 5 other apps and mains and everything was excellent.
Be warned though, my brother lives down the street and admits that the place is too busy to just stop in when you want. We were there on a Monday and the place was full with a waiting list. That doesnt often happen in Toronto.
An old friend from school who is now a lawyer in Ottawa took me to Hy’s Steakhouse last night. I’ve been three times in the last year to this place and while the ambiance is good and the service is always excellent i’m never totally amazed by the steaks. I don’t know about Ottawa but there are certainly better steaks out there than this.
The table side caesar is very good though.
Also did Oliver’s and Salvatore’s both downtown Oakville in the last 2 weeks. Both are well established fine dining restaurants. I had fish each time and everything was excellent. Salvatore’s had an old smelly server with some fairly significant B.O. but there was some mega hot chicks in there (botox’d mom and her daughter) that took our mind off everything. The Lobster was not great but i’ll assume that was a one-off.
I went here during restaurant week with the g/f and was super impressed with the service, portion sizes, and quality of food for the price. Will def. go back there in the future.
Yes it is, wish I wasn’t so far away from it now.
i went to sticky fingers smokehouse and bbq when i was in charlotte the other week. loved it.
really dont have anything else to add here right now.
Anyone else here avoid restaurants during restaurant week? Every time I’ve gone to places where the quality is normally very high, it’s been meh at best during restaurant week.
Generally. I have found that the offers aren’t that enticing to come in. I will say that I did go to Rick’s on Main in EA during restaurant week and had a Coca-Cola braised pork shank. It was amazing.
That plating bums me out.
I didn’t see a single one of my Monday and Tuesday regulars last week. It sucked.
I’m not even sure my manager wants to participate anymore because it scares all of our customers that like $150 bottles of wine away for people not trying to break a $50 check.
Easily one of my favorite places to go out to eat, restaurant week or not. I’ve recommended Rick’s to a few people/couples and they all rave about it afterwards. I took the lady there and she’s been asking when we’re going back.
I especially like keeping my money local and I try to avoid chain restaurants. I’m not saying they have bad food, but I can get a meal at TGI’s or Applebees in/around buffalo, jump on a plane across the country and eat that same meal in a place like California, etc.
Huge  to everyone who tries a new place and keeps their money and business here in WNY.
Agreed.
Headed to Rochester for a concert this Friday, can anyone recommend a cool/good/semi-unique place to go? Not looking for Dino BBQ or Tahoe’s…
I see Lento which looks nice, but its slightly more than I want to spend for the occasion.
Tap and Mallet is pretty awesome, if you’re a beer drinker. Mostly small stuff to eat, but what I’ve had was awesome.
One of my Roch staples.
I recently went to Papaya, delicious food and drinks, will post a pic, as per usual =p
The Roycroft Inn was voted in the top 100 brunches. (Out of like 15,000)
I think the key is just to not outkick your coverage. Seems like if you go to the place where it’s usually $80 a plate, then yeah your $20 plate is going to be lacking because they are just going through the motions. When you go somewhere that would be $20-30, I have had some great experiences and super meal deals with places actually trying to win new customers. Found the Gate House Grill and Kentucky Greg’s during restaurant week last year and been back 3-4 times since.
We went out once to blackrock, just because we generally like that place. Went on a monday, not expecting it to be busy, and it was packed. food was still great, but i’ve found that the only way to get decent service is to eat at the bar.
Other than that, nothing enticed us enough to go out and deal with shitty people who never go out and dont know how to act.
^lol I got a funny story about people not knowing how to act.
Me too, I love this story.
My wife and I were at Rue Franklin Last spring and there was this guy making all sorts of noise. He looked to be in his late 50’s and was wearing a jacket from some trucking company. His date didn’t like the wine they had ordered so he asked the waiter to “Bring me something else, Bring me something more expensive!”
When the waiter started to ask her what sort of wines she likes, so they could get her something she’d enjoy… The dude continued “It doesn’t matter, just bring me something more expensive! Nothing is too good for her!”
He proceeded to drink the rest of the first bottle of wine, get tanked, and start making small talk with the people at other tables. At one point attempted speaking German to someone who had a German last name and talking about WWII, and about how the German’s weren’t all bad.
Good times. We still joke about it.
EDIT: this would probably make a good thread on its own.
Going to be working tomorrow? Ill be in around 7. Needs me some good food
