I think there are important details left out. Did steve2k get $5k for this thing selling it as “road ready in great shape blah blah blah” or did he take $1500 for it saying “I dunno anything about it, I bought it never drove it.”
OP stated that he knew the car couldn’t be driven, but was only told that was due to bad ball joints. When he found a myriad of other issues, he was able to contact the previous owner (the person Steve bought from) and was told that the “myraid of issues” was in fact disclosed to Steve. Steve never disclosed them to the OP.
Regardless of the price, he lied…He was told there was other issues, but didn’t pass the information on.
^Allegedly. Let’s wait for Steve to respond. I’ve never met him but always hear good things. Hopefully it’s just a misunderstanding.
The price has alot of impact on my opinion at least. I’m curious what was paid if the parties are willing to disclose.
Like Fry said…there are 2 extremes and of course somewhere in the middle possibly.
The water/leak seems something that should be disclosed and known…even without having driven the car. The struts and brakes I can see having no knowledge about if the car wasn’t drivable. All this said Steve is active on here and I don’t think he would try and screw someone. He doesn’t seem the type to shit where he eats if ya know what I’m saying. I’ve bought something from ieatpaint and had no issues that I recall.
Pop me some popcorn fellas…I’m fresh out. LOL

OUCH. This changes everything if true.
Was the car garaged/covered prior to you picking it up? I only ask because I bought a Mustang that the PO had stored in a garage, and he really never drove it during the time he owned it. I left it outside in the rain and the floor was a fucking lake! No biggie, just a WS seal, and I garage it now anyway. The guy had been honest about everything else so chances are he didn’t know.
.
Steve seemed like a stand up guy when he was on the buying end of an accessport from me a couple years ago.
Steve told me who the previous owner was and that he was a friend. Said friend even helped steve fix some of the issues with the car after it transferred ownership. Unless I’m being bullshitted by the previous owner, which I don’t think a friend would do that to another friend. I should also mention the previous owner didn’t contact me about it, I contacted him asking what he thought could be the issue so I wasn’t throwing money into this thing blindly. It was then that I was informed of the other issues and the real story. I really don’t see how this could go any other way.
:orly:
sounds a little :snky: to me.
Word of advice for now on. Push on the front end and rear end of the car to see how the suspension moves. Just a thought.
Doesn’t surprise me…
20 year old car with 160k and it has issues shocking
If the car wasn’t being driven I don’t know how he would know about a water leak generally most people don’t go outside and inspect the carpet on a car that is sitting…
I dunno, I guess when I buy a car that old I automatically have 4 calipers ordered off of rockauto, and some cheap AGXs ready to be swapped in. That’s less than a grand to make a beat car almost handle and stop like new.
If the engine was skunk shifted, or the tranny was spitting out gears then that is something to be mad about.
So you never got inside the car before you bought it?
I’d think if I got in a car and there was standing water I could splash my feet in, I wouldnt buy it. You know that much water can be seen thru a window.
I dont know steve never dealt with him. However, alot of this is your fault for not checking out the car before forking over the cask, seems since you found the issues, you know what to look for. so alot of this could have been avoided.
I’m not mad the car has issues, it’s not that at all. I knew there would be issues with a 20 year old german car with 166k on it. I didn’t think I’d run into this many issues right away but even more-so I’m upset the seller didn’t disclose them when he knew about them. That’s it.
Thier is 3 sides to this story. Yours, His and the truth.
Was the car garaged? why didnt you notice the water when you looked at it. Buying a 19yr old car, well its going to have issues. If the preivios owner never drove it, He might of never known.
Almost 20 year old car. As is. That you didn’t even get in and look at before you bought it? Sounds like you dug your own grave. Especially when the previous owner never drove it.
there is no burden to disclose known problems, but if you knowingly don’t disclose them to a forum like this then it’s fair to call the seller not so great and good for others to know.
The car was undrivable and the water was concentrated in the back. I would’ve never bought it knowing he didn’t drive it but it came from a friend of his and he’s a fellow nyspeeder, I figured I could trust him.
Just realized why everyone keeps saying puddles, the water was pooled UNDER the carpet, there isn’t standing water ON the carpet. I didn’t write that in my original post. The carpet is wet to the touch, but by no means is it splashing. Sorry for that confusion.
19, 20yr blah blah… I bought a 350k+ tdi with every issue, now and in the near present that would have to be dealt with made clear at the time of purchase, from a fellow board member.
The car I can imagine has issues that you’ve yet to find, and for someone “who never drove it. ever.” how are they supposed to know??
I’m sure the water wasn’t there on… Saturday? But Sunday after that shit load of rain came through, I bet it was a different story.
Was this thread really justified?
sure it’s justified as a fair review unless the seller wants to say “I told you about the brakes”
there is no resolution required, it’s just a review.
