IMHO buying a car from a fellow NYSpeeder means to me it’s been screwed with and “fixed” several times. I always assume the worst. Most “car guys” really don’t know what they’re talking about any usually make things worse.
I think it’s cool that people take this so seriously. I would take it seriously if I were selling a car on here.
That being said, is there something I’m missing because I’ve only been on here a few months?
After all, this is an internet forum that ANYONE can join so to trust someone just because they’re on here and have 50 or so posts…that would be tough for me.
I get where you’re coming from, but a member that’s been here for years with tons of vouches, tons of posts and a bmw enthusiast is much different than someone who joins just to sell cars.
The car I can imagine has issues that you’ve yet to find, and for someone “who never drove it. ever.” how are they supposed to know??
I’m sure the water wasn’t there on… Saturday? But Sunday after that shit load of rain came through, I bet it was a different story.
I’m not sure if you missed the part about his friend, who is also the previous owner telling me that the seller was aware of the issues.
Edit: God damn how do you use the multiple quote function?
i have been in this situation twice, both with crx’s. One had a completely screwed wiring harness that I was never told about, and the other I bought off here had a blown head that was “rebuilt”, in turn never told about and then that blew on me. It sucks. I feel that pain. like you said, live and learn and have fun working on it?
Rule 1 of buying a car, don’t trust ANYONE, EVER, not even family members.
They might know about issues and not tell you, they might have forgotten about them(it happens), they might not know, might think that it’s to be expected, etc.
I bought a motor that a member on here re-ringed and put bearings in, he put the wrong rings on the pistons, they were too narrow for the groove. They guy I bought it from owned it after they guy that did the work. As far as I can tell neither of them realized it, or if they did they at least didn’t post about it. I’m pissed about it, but the motor was a deal, and still is but not quite as good, and now I’ve fixed it.
Hit multi quote on a few posts, then quote on the last one.
I would honestly never buy a car off of someone on here lol. Despite their reputation.
I have in the past but will not again.
not too surprised my brother bought that red truck from his dad and had the driveshaft fall out on him driving down the 90 the day after he bought it. There was a laundry list of shit wrong that wasnt disclosed the majority of HAD to be known about. What are ya gonna do though used cars and shady people go hand in hand and thats just the way its always gonna be.
I just said it rained a lot Sunday night… Is it anything you can’t fix?
Sounds like you have the right attitude about the whole thing. Where the fuck is Steve, and his opinion…?
I’m not sure, I cleaned out the drain tube hole things and water runs from all 4 of them now. I can’t be sure if it is a seal issue or a drain tube issue. I guess I’ll find out after I shop vac out the current water and see if any more shows up…
Unless there is proof the previous owner told him and he knew about it, it’s all hearsay. Shitty situation either way for both of you.
Damn all these posts and steve hasnt responded, I must say this is a shitty situation and all but cars have to be looked over before bought that is one of the most important things when buying a car look at everything, also this doesn’t sound like steve he’s been on this forum how long?, and sold how many cars and parts etc, too many stories only steve knows if he lied or not
Use the icon to the right of the quote button and hit that on multiple posts, then on the last post you want to quote, hit the regular quote button
I hope the car blows up on you just because you asked him “What’s the lowest you’ll take for it?” That is the biggest fucking shit fuck asshole way of haggling ever. Have some balls and make an intelligent offer, not some pussy ass bitch stain “What’s the lowest you’ll take?” bitch way of negotiating. I’m more shocked that someone on this board sold a car to another person. Must have only been for $500.
I wish you still sold cars so I could come ask you this…
<3
Except the Saab you sold me that blew the tranny. lol J/K that’s a shit situation for the OP though. If ya can’t trust people on the internet, who can ya trust?
It’s a great feeler and I’ve been surprised many a time with the sellers response being less than I would have offered. The one that speaks first is generally going to lose. You sure do get worked up easy.
hope you have this things covered up cuz its raining like a bastard right now…
That’s funny, as a seller whenever someone asks me “What is the lowest you will take?” I respond with my asking price, or sometimes 50% more.
All used cars are a gamble and odds are a 20 year old german luxury car is going to have some things wrong with it,especially if no maintenance history is provided.Just look at what happened to Burnt_Toast with that low mileage VR6 he purchased,it ended up needing everything. Its an even bigger gamble if you cant drive it or at least ride in it before purchasing it.
Class act. J/K I lol’ed
This. I almost ALWAYS force the other party into the first move because you gain the upper hand. Why when asked the “lowest” you’d take would you reply with your bottom line? You know you’ll get lowballed from there and it’s the same reason you set the asking price higher than what you want.
