I don’t miss the red car one bit, well not anymore
re-re’d top fits much better now and the new tinted rear window is killin it! I have the new vinyl headliner half installed and will be onto the woofer box/trunk area next!

tinted window is pretty sick… AND HUGE! shit that’s like 4 times the size of the Miata window lol
Really dig the red stitched leather interior, looks so much more comfortable and classy than stock!
lookin good dev
I was aiming for around 3.5 cubic feet but ill be lucky if i can squeeze 3. I made use of every square inch I could without interfering with the top and leaving a little bit of luggage space.
The box splits in half to allow me to get it in and out of the car, I still have to make use of the spare tire area and add the brackets in the box to hold the halves together. The tallest portion of the box sits right up against the rear seat with the woofer and port shooting into the car.
Some dope work here, what you gonna make a new headliner out of? Your old car had ostrich leather in it right?
Whats the thickness on the mdf? looks kinda thin from the pics. What subs going in?
I had stridge on the exterior roof of the red car and suede inside, i did this one in vinyl like oem. Suede fades same with gucci so i’d like to avoid making more work for myself in the future.
MDF’s between 3/4"-1" They had some oversize 3/4" boards that were significantly thicker than others. Heres the woofer http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_134_Audiobahn-AW1208T.html
Nvm than. 3/4" thickness should be plenty. With the right screws ofcourse! Looks sick just be careful to tune the port pretty low so you don’t damage the sub around res. frequency.
I have it built to spec in an awkward shape to save space. The manual calls for a single 4" port hole 7 3/4" in length for a 2.5 foot box, which gives it a tuned freq of 38hz? what ever all that means lol
The box is built pretty solid! Its all glued with this PL glue a friend recommended. There are two panels that are removable by countless screws, these panels i lined with a dense 1/8th foam to seal the enclosure so i can access the hardware in the box.
The box unbolts in halves from one of two access holes. Id like to find a small sheet of thick lexan or plexiglass to make a window if anyone knows where to get the material? The box should be ready to pump tomorrow and maybe ready to start laying out all the components.
^^ the tuning frequency is where the box and sub will be the “loudest”. The issue that comes into play is that because the sub is getting louder, its moving more and its possible to over extend itself and damage components. Thats the excursion. If it exceeds a certain threshold it’ll damage the sub and you’ll hear distortion. If you are building to the spec that the sub wants you should be fine.
You will also need to break in the sub if its a new one. Different break ins for different subs but its usually like 24 hrs of low level music. As for plexiglass i have no idea but some art supply stores sell a thin one which would flex with the bass but you might be able to find a thicker one?
Goodluck and keep up the awesome work.
Unbolting the box’s half’s in the car is a 30 minute job with the woofer snatching my tools! The box had to come out once more to double the baffle to 1.5" of MDF due to some vibrations as well as more sound deadening under the box. Lastly ill have to add some brackets to hold the box in place firmly so it cant move in any direction.
One day ill make a folding down rear seat or center section of the backrest.
whoever is gonna be in the back is gonna get pounded, literally.
Something I learned:
When building a ported enclosure, expect to built it 3 times to get it right. This was my 1st port design which was giving me a lot of port noise and almost making the woofer sound like its chopping/vibrating.
Heres my contribution to the hardcore JDM croud with my sweet pipes! By porting outside of the enclosure I spared myself the precious box volume that I need for this woofer to play well and added a little “wtf” factor This setup hits soo hard my trunks hinges are vibrating out of control! I may wire it from 1ohm to 4ohm to keep the car together. Ill get a video soon of the vinyl rear window dancing its intense.
Im not 110% sure what ill be doing to finish the trunk, plans change very frequently.
thats hilarious haha… i know your going for the vip look with the exterior and interior of the car but perhaps go some crazy industrial look/feel in the trunk if you keep that pipe setup haha … just my 2 cents lol
Individual throttle bodies?
Nooooooo this just doesnt look right.
lol trunks not going to stay like that! I’m going to made a fiberglass cover that contours to the ports and some of the components.
Been driving the car the past couple days only to have one issue which was the shifter knob breaking. Weathers calling for rain the next few days so its back in the garage for some intake manifold work!
I cut the oversize flange off after fitting the intake on and seing that my hood is 4" short of closing…&%*#! Nothings as easy as it seems. Id asume this would fit the skyline chassis…but doubt a S13 or S13.4 in my case.
I cut 2/3 of the top of the manifold down keeping in mind how it will look finished with some more tig welding. Using some intercooler piping I formed a new neck and re-located the TB out of the way of the coolant line/fusebox. Couple pieces to make and a fair bit of plumbing then i can get the manifold welded and hope it runs just as smooth but with a little more pissed off RB engine sound
Next winter im going to take care of under the hood doing a wire tuck and paint, Its almost time to start enjoying summer. After the intake i think almost everything will be painted a matte black/crinkle and do a high gloss on the engine cover to keep it clean.
you crazy dev… keep it up
this is amazing it gets me so pumped for my vert. asome job man looks unreal so much work!
