How do you unseize a top pillowball mount on front coilovers?? My front mounts won’t rotate…
PB Blaster…impact and a wrench? Wont move or are you trying to do it by hand?
Hit them with some penetrating fluid and move your steering wheel from side to side until it frees up. I keep them greased so this wouldn’t happen hope it works
how is it seized if your stance coils are new?
I figured it was just really stiff cause they are new, kinda like a ballljoint is really stiff when new. But it turns out that when I turn the wheel the pillowball doesn’t move, it’s the shock body that turns and it binds the spring which makes this really annoying noise. I looked on Zilvia and a few people have this problem with Stance coils, but they don’t seem to know how to fix it, so I’ll try what you guys said. Thx!
wow on new coils ? try penetrating fluid such a wurth or moovit, those are good, is there a load adjustment for the balljoint or no ? (as in does it come apart) if so than maybe undo it and retorque to spec
My pillow mounts seized up on me after a month on brand new megan coils. Penetrate to free them up and keeping them greased will do the trick.
come to think of it, now i know what you are talking about and i HAD the same problem. also talked to ppl on zilvia and said it was quite normal.
when i first installed them i’d hear the sound of a rusty hinge when turning at slow speeds (5km/hr or less)
now i don’t hear it anymore. you just have to break them in. no grease is required, i called stance and asked.
if your trying to move it by hand, yes it will feel seized. its different when theres 500lbs+ of force on it.
install them, run it for 2weeks and your good. just needs to be broken in, thats all
tighten the top bolts to 55lbs as recommended by stance
don’t use an impact gun, use a torque breaker bar or watever
I read the thread on Zilvia and there are a few people who’ve have them on for a few months and the problem is still there.
probably deformed by too much torque (impacted)
Are you guys testing with the car on the ground while a friend is turning the steeing wheel?
If you’re doing it by hand and the car is on jackstands then no, like duckJai said, the pillow ball wount turn since there’s no weight on the shock body…it’ll just rotate around the collars and spring mounts.
…Just checking.
I checked with the car in the air, but the shock is also turning when the car is on the ground because I can hear the spring being twisted when I park my car.
thats exactly what happend to me
i called stance they said give it a while to let the pillowball break in
mine doesn’t do it anymore.
just install them and if it still happens after a while then call stance and they’ll fix it for you.
They’ve been installed for a week now.
give it some more time, trust me
mine stopped after 2-3weeks lol
call stance if u are really worried.
I sent them an e-mail last week and they haven’t replied. Anyways, today it did it less then before, so hopefully it’s on it’s way.
At first I thought for sure it was just the break-in period, but then I read a few horror stories on Zilvia that got me super worried. lol
I thought stance coilovers were supposed to be the best and have no problems?
Damn straight, this isn’t a problem. What happened is there was so much awesomeness in these coils that the awesomeness got jammed in the mount.
word
don’t worry, fobwall sports megan thats why he’s just feeling jealous that he can’t slam his car down like we can with our stance
id like to personally run on megan to see how much of a difference there is.
i’ve heard and read how there is a world of a difference, but i can’t say its true since i havnt tested it myself.
all i can say is, the dampening on stance is pretty damn good. you can actually feel each adjustment and it makes a huge difference, unlike the 36way adjustable megan (also hearing from other ppl with no personal experience)
stance are the best for their price and competition value
there are megans d2s ksports that are clumped together as a group
then there is kts which is supose to be better then those 3 http://splparts.com/Parts/S14/Suspension/Coilovers/default.asp
and then stance supose to be slightly better then kts…
but thats just what i have read from zilvia ppl that actually drift their cars … i have only sat in cars with megan and stance… i have not driven…
