Perhaps the cop was jealous of the M5 and decided the situation wasnt worth reporting. they do have discretionary power I guess. not all cops make the right choice in every case. Doesnt make it right though.

I would have never called the cops because I know they would do jack and seeing if they came I could not pay back the favor…
I think the problem is no one saw it happen. Yeah, the door lines up with the dent but that’s hardly one in a million type evidence. Is it likely it was that car, sure. Is it strong enough evidence for a cop to write it on a report and say that car definitely caused your dent… I don’t know.
It sucks but generally you just can’t take anything nice where trashy people congregate. The Galleria Mall, any Walmart, the City of Buffalo etc.
Because the incident was on private property, Im not sure there is anything the cops could do… Dont quote me on that though.
Did you check with the theater to see if they have cameras?
Otherwise this is what you should do and is probably the best way to go about it. File a claim with your insurance if the damage is bad enough. Give them all the info you have re: the details, license plate # etc. Once they are done handling your claim, they will search for the at fault parties insurance and try subrogate what they have paid including your deductible.
There are no guarantees that you will get your deductible back or that the other parties insurance will even pay out.
This is one of those shitty situations where you are going to end up eating it. Too many assholes in this world.
Insist your insurance company chase his down for the money, you COULD get it covered under a comprehensive policy but you shouldn’t have to be the one to pay for it… it’s a last resort. I had some dick-wad either key or scrape my car with a shopping cart at Wegmans the other week (didn’t see it, nobody was parked near me when I got out, which is how I’d left the car to begin with) and while it’s not exactly breaking-the-bank expensive, I just hate that now I’ll have non-original paint / bodywork, heh, nevermind that I’d rather spend that money on a track weekend. Yeah the car has 100k miles on it and some small stone chips up front and a few little dings here and there, but the fact that someone could be so careless and inconsiderate really irks me.
the camera that i could see was on the wrong side of the vehicles.

this is 100% how i feel about the matter. fucking white trash and some fat shit swinging his door open. Its not that i cant afford the200-300 bucs to have it fixed, its that i actually know who did it. Ughh, resprayed paint never matches 100%.

My buddy hired a private investigator, who also worked for the town of hamburg court.
He claimed some lady backed out of her driveway and into his car, the PI went to the house, collected evidence (paint on the bumper) and he took the lady to court and won.
It’s always an option. Usually if you say “court” people will just pay

no pics, after i showed them there door lined up perfectly to the dent they stopped cooperating. just got an estimate from schmits, $360.00 and they would need it overnight.
im sure the dent wizard can pull the dent but im not sure if it will buff out. looks like there clearcoat/silver paint on my car.
It isn’t worth it is the reality. There isn’t much you can do aside from claiming it under your comprehensive policy. Does it suck? Sure. Do cops have more important things to do? I’d like to think so. In most areas, cops won’t write tickets/reports for events like this on private property. We were in a car in a parking lot and were backed in to, as in the entire door dented in. Luckily the people weren’t trash and gave us their insurance information but the cop wouldn’t (and said they couldn’t) write a report.
If it is that much of a bank breaker to pay, then don’t have it fixed. You can take anyone to small claims court for anything. If you had pictures etc you’d probably win but seems like it would be worth more trouble than its worth to me.

My dad had similar damage to his WRX and it was like $1400 to repair w/ the paint work.
has nothing to do with the money. it has to do with having trash take responsibility for there actions. I pay my debts and so should others for there careless mistakes. Sure i can have it fixed and take it as a life lesson or i can do what i can to make it someone elses lesson as well and maybe save a car door or 2 when people realize “hey if i hit that car i may have to pay for it”.

hate to say it, but the only thing that hits home with ignorant motherfuckers is violence and/or retribution. I’ve been known to kick qtr panels in or smash windows in situations like this. Or cross the plate thru the dmv, find out where they live and go fuck with them where they live

Ehh, I’m not sure which one would be more expensive, but I think the shock value of having a collapsed roof compared to a broken windshield would be a lot more.

This just happened to my brother. The fucking trash hit his passenger side, RUBBED THE AREA to see if he dented it (which wasn’t needed it was clearly damaged), saw he did, and then walked away. And it wasn’t a light dent, its $900 to the door like someone kicked open the trash’s door into his. Cops wouldn’t do a thing about it.
Oh and the parked car has no case- ask me how I know…:banghead:
