My idea on the issue is that God is understood to be omniscient and omnipotent, if God is indeed so, and the bible is a 100% factual representation of God, then the statement “God is light and in him there is no darkness”. This statment would allow use to infer that Light is good and Darkness is evil (since these are also polar opposites). Now the bible also depicts the circumstances that produced Satan. Now if Satan is pure evil and was created by a God that is omniscient and can only be good. How can a God produce (knowing full well that Satan would become evil) and evil being? Once you understand that part you can determine that God cannot be purely good, and cannot exist, as the God people believe in.
And an old classic: If God is omnipotent, can God produce an object so heavy and large that God himself could not lift.
Not really, buddhists are too busy being aware of the here and now. One of the points they hold is that you need to be aware of whats going on here and now. There is no eternity, everything is always changing. That just makes more sense to me.
how can you base an entire theory on a handful of skeletons though, i work in the medical field and i’ve seen weirder bone structures than just a big body small head and tiny spinal cord crossections. i’ve seen siamese twins where the 2nd one doesnt’ develop but ends as part of the first one. that would be like digging the bones up of this person and saying… “thousands of years ago homo-erectus had 3 arms” because they’d find a skeleton with 3 arms.
also changing of skin color to support your environment is not evolotion that’s adaptation dont’ confuse the 2 if the people in africa suddenly grew wings to fly that would be evolution
black people. irish people. people that live by the equator are black. people that live way away from the equator are white. Evolution. If you took a pasty brit and stuck him on the equator with no sunscreen for a month, theres a good chance he could die from sun poisioning.
again, black people. Want to know why blacks are proportionally better at sports than white people and proportionally less intellegent? When we were picking out which slaves to take over, we only took the biggest and the strongest. What did we do to the smart slaves that could read? We killed them. Natural selection/evolution speeded up many times by intereference of man. Now take that same effect over hundreds of thousands of years. I dont think that evolution fundamentally answers the question of where exactly we came from (from the simplest goo to the insanely complex neuro/cardiovascular systems we have now). However, to say that evolution doesnt exist is retarded.
I had a bunch of stereo stuff stolen in high school, I prayed like hell to bring it back, but it never did - that motherfucker god let me down
I prayed like hell for months straight to help me get into the air force because that’s what I really wanted to do with my life, never happenend - that motherfucker god let me down again.
I could go on and on about things I have prayed for that never happenend. The point is - praying is a joke and does not work. You are wasting time by praying when you could be out actually doing something to make your life better.
question for religious people - do you blame god when something bad happens or only praise him when something good happens?
No, that would not be evolution. That’s a genetic mutation which could lead to evolution, but only if it proved beneficial. Those strange bone structures you are seeing are the same exact thing. Evolution does not happen “suddenly” and only happens when natural selection is allowed to occur. Unfortunately, we don’t allow that to happen any more. We see genetic mutations as bad and do what we can to prevent them.
Other fun facts - Martin Luther hated Jews and wrote very derogatory things, including entire papers about them.
The Catholic Church did not officially recognize that the earth rotated around the sun until Pope John Paul:
What got him into trouble with the Roman Catholic Church was his strong and vocal support of Copernicus and the revolutionary theory that the Earth orbited the sun.
The church believed otherwise, its view based upon the work of a Greek astronomer named Ptolemy more than 1,000 years earlier.
Galileo’s public commentaries – caustic and plentiful – were impossible to ignore. They brazenly contradicted conventional interpretations of the Holy Scriptures, which were then universally believed to be the supreme authority on all matters of science, as well as everything else. The Bible, for example, talked of the sun staying its course at the prayer of Joshua and the Earth being ever immovable. Thus Copernican theory – and Galileo’s fervent support of it – was deemed anti-Scriptural, though Galileo considered himself to be a devout Catholic.
Also, story about a large flood out west will be shown soon:
but with the limited number of examples of so called evolution out there who’s to say that they weren’t just genetic mutations of the time, there is no proof that says that so-and-so that was dug up wasn’t just an outcast freak because of a problem. there is nothing to suggest that our genetic makup as a human with 46 chromosomes started out as an ape with 48 chromosomes or a fish for that matter.
and that would be an example of evolution “evolving” does not have a predestined time period obviously i didnt’ mean overnight but over several generations…and i dont’ consider a fish growing legs and moving up on land a result of evolving with the environment…there is still water they could have stayed there it’s not like the water was all gone and they needed to go somewhere.
on a side note everything you posted dealt with the catolic faith and their views on matters, if you read any of the previous thread we’ve already discussed that
You still don’t really know what evolution is. Evolution does not happen out of necessity. Let’s continue your example of a fish growing legs - it did not happen because there was no water. It happened through genetic mutations which proved beneficial. Maybe there was nothing else on the land when our fish grew legs and it had much less competition for food and no predators allowing it to flourish.
Also, adaptation IS a form of evolution. It’s not like babies born near the equator come put pale and then magically adapt and become dark skinned. No, it’s the genetic trait of having dark skin that was beneficial, so it spread.
Please, read this for a better understanding of evolution.
Yes I posted about how obscene the Catholic church was by not accepting the world revolves around the sun, but you missed my point. They did not want to accept that because it went against what was in the bible. You don’t think that’s applicable in this conversation? Same thing, your beliefs come from some written word which may or may not be flawed. I’m not trying to get you to go against your beliefs. As much as you want others to admit there may be a god, you also need to admit that perhaps evolution is real. Also, evolution being true does not mean there is no god. To simply turn your back on a possible explanation and not really know anything about it is awfully dangerous. Imagine if no one would have questioned the belief that the earth is the center of the universe.
And also, we share are closer to some primates than you think:
As I said before, people should not be judging others religions as if they are some how evil or not as worthy as their own.
this thread is full of judment from people on the christian faith so don’t give me that don’t pass judgement bs.
and i know what evolution is and adaptation is not a form of evolution. we are not a genetic mutation from a single celld organism that grew out of something that was beneficial.
…so i’ve been reading through Genesis lately and sure, there are a lot of cool things going on, but the one thing I can’t help but take my focus from is the incest.
In the begining there were Adam and Eve, who pro-created (banged). To continue pro-creation, there was certainly incest. Half of Genesis is people “pro-creating” with there sister…
So that means probably billiyons of years of incest leads us to utter disasterous mutation (evolution?) and we now only use 10% of our brains and discuss blasphomy on pittspeed.com. …I’m hoping this world ends soon
