holy shit! the block is the only thing salvageable? heads are shot too? the hell happened that killed it?
you seem like you really like the thing, so why not build it up some, or swap out motors. 5.9’s are pretty common engines, dakotas, durangos, rams, JGC’s, etc. had them. I’m sure you can get a good one for under a G.
so basically a rebuilt motor is gonna cost me AT LEAST $3000. my frind had a guy that ownes a small bussiness called RV Engines out in Batavia build him a brand new 5.0 for his Lincoln Mk VII, and it cost him around a grand for a new block and everything, so i’mm gonna give this guy a call tomorrow and see what he can do for me. cuz i dont need a new block, i dont THINK i need a new crank, i dont need a new intake manifold (all of which will come on a re-built one), so im gonna have to see what this guy says. o and by the way, IT IS NOW FOR SALE!!! i have to sell it to pay for the new motor, as messed up as that sounds. so someone is gonna be getting a brand new truck pretty much,
if you really really really want to sell it, junk yard motor then sell it, if not. invest a little money into a mild built engine and put some nitrious on it.
call junkyards find a 360.and ur mechanics marking up alot trust me. u can get a motor for around 2200 brand new. i forget who we use at work but r commercial discount brought the last engine to 1100 we only marked it up to 2
Seriously if you don’t get a junkyard motor, and have a mechanic rip you off instead. I’m going to find a ladder so I can kick you in the nuts.
Seriously though, tons of junkyards out there. Based on the description, it sounded like a spun bearing. I’m quite curious hom much damage was really done. If it’s the bottom end, there are some bottom-end parts on ebay that could be used to fix it inexpensively with some machine work.
If the top-end was really bad though junkyard motor all the way. Don’t even bother with getting it rebuilt if you are planning on selling it.
It’s time to learn the art of inexpensive repairs.
ok i was right…you did mean the super charger
dude sorry to hear about that…but your mechanic saying that the block is the only good thing left sounds a little fishy…go get a junkyard motor for a few hundo and drop it in
When my stepdad got his new dakota sxt V6, he had a bad noise start about 1 week after buying it. Dealer said it was a bad lifter and pulled the motor apart and replaced. It solved nothing, they later identified it as something with one of the pullyes/accessories on the motor that was making the sound. Just a thought, thats all.
^ thats a smokin deal right there. if not, i would say start searching to see how much some better internals cost, and im guessing you could get all the bottom end parts for about $2000, and then im sure plenty of us on here would be willing to help you assemble this thing, me included
yeah - exactly what was the cause of death again? it did sound like a wrapped bearing, but that wouldn’t kill the entire engine unless the crank grenaded.
ok, so i talked to the guy who did my friend’s 5.0. he said if i bring him the motor, he would be able to rebuold it for a pretty reasonable price. as he said, he hasnt seen the motor yet, but he said i shouldnt need a new motor, at worst i would need a new crank, and he said its going to prob cost at least a grand. again, this is all considering he ahs not seen it. he also has a guy that will take the motor out of the truck and put it back in when its done for around $600. i would prob do this because i do not have the tools, time skills to do this myself. my only problem is i havew to find a way to get it to Batavia…and driving it there is NOT an option.
i serriously may have to take u up on that. my friend MIGHT tow it with his Ram but he didnt realize how far it is and he’s not so sure he wants to do it all of a sudden. its really not that far, when i had to go out there with my friend to drop off some stuff for his motor, we got there in less than 45 min. technically its in Alexander, NY but i guess thats close to Batavia.
