i never realized how freekin big that transmission is, damn! and i’ll make sure to post pics up later tonight after we get it up on the engine stand and tear into it to see the dammage
i think im gonna rebuild it, but im going to wait and see once i take it apart. its not like im out any money just for pulling it out and taking it apart myself, so we’ll see. im still keeping the junkyard motor option open.
and yes, it seemed like a pain in the ass because there were a lot of little things and it was hard to get my friends over to help me with it at times, but it is only the second motor that i have pulled, and obviously it is my car so im a bit more concerned with it, but compared to some cars, i dont think it was that bad.
EDIT: i noticed that there is a fine fine layer of rust starting to show up on the heads where bare metal once was. i think this is jsut from it being exposed to the natural moisture in the air. its really thin and you can almost wipe it off with your finger. anything i can do to make sure this gets cleaned up?
its just surface rust, like focus said just spray some oil on it. Good job on getting the motor out, sucks you have had so many issue along the way tho. Ohh and dont ask someone at pepboys for advice anymore
oook so we tore it donw completely and its not looking so good. the bearings are ALL worn down to the copper and as thin as tinfoil in some places, and the crank has grooves in it prob close to 1/16" deep. ouch! the cylender walls look to be OK but we didnt really go over them with a fine tooth comb. to be honest, i didnt really look at the rods, but considering the condition of the crank, im thinking the rods are not much better. i will try and take a few pics of the dammage, but pics dont do it justice at all.
as most of you prob know, im trying to do this as cheap as possible, so any1 have any suggestions where i might be able to get a re-maunbfactured crank or even a crank that isnt re-manufactired but in good enough shape to use? i kinda want to stay away from ebay, but if need be…
no clue what caused it. i kno it had the head gasket done twice befire i got it, so that might have had something to do with it over time? im going to autozone on monday thanks.
oh the joys of spun bearings… i don’t miss that one bit. i had one that was “missing” that we never even found…and all the rest were toast like the one u posted
