turboSHO caught on fire

how far out do they go with classifieds searches of similar cars to rate a damaged cars value?

lol:
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=237150565&dealer_id=277093&car_year=1993&num_records=25&model=TAURUS&systime=&make2=&start_year=1993&engine=&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&certified=&fuel=&body_code=0&search_type=both&distance=500&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&first_record=26&make=FORD&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=100001&style_flag=1&sort_type=mileageDESC&address=14224&advanced=y&end_year=1995&pager.offset=25&transmission=&doors=&max_price=&cardist=433

Thats what I was wondering about as well.

If somebody hit me and totalled my car I’d be pissed to get a $3000 check for “fair” value, when in the market its worth at least $6-8K

that shos just REALLY overpriced is all, lol

the turbosho wouldn’t be worth that much with a fresh paint job, a detailed interior, and all the turbo parts included

Why not bring the car back to stock and find a clean lower miles car?

^^^alex doesnt even want to bother doing a $100 paint job to this one, lol

^^^ why a van with a 3.8l?

because 13 sec vans are sweet why else

are you gonna turbo it?

or are you trying to get in on Zwarbyts sleeper minivan style lol

my thoughts exactly, sorry to hear though

Sux bro. Sounds like it wasn’t as bad as frist thought/coulda been. Lemme know if u need anything. Like a 92 MTX.

well I looked at it under the hood a bit better today.

*power steering res is slightly melted (still serviceable)
*battery is scorched a bit on the corner (still serviceable)
*serp belt melted onto my plastic timing cover so both the belt and cover need to be replaced.
*DIS (ignition module) badly burned and will likely need replacement)

I didn’t jack the car up because i lost my drive to work on it for now but I imagine the 2 lower timing covers will need replacement as well and possibly the main crank seal if the crank got hot enough to damage it which i doubt. Somehow there is no damage at all to the hood thank god.

I wonder what the book price is on replacing the timing covers. I would bet at least 3 + all discontinued parts. I guess i’ll be cleaning up the car and calling a adjuster out on tuesday.

edit: the wideband is shot too.

:frowning: fastest SHO! turbo ever to lose to a fireball. tell me it isnt so.

Save it SAVE IT !

Didn’t know you were into babys, but good of you to let us know what you were doing when you posted that lol. And that van was in your favorite color too.

ouch bro
buy a b5s4

i cant imagine the insurance adjuster is going to be too happy about an engine fire inside a heavily modded engine… they have grounds to deny the claim… it would be better to just fix this yourself out of pocket… no reason to have a claim on ur insurance for this

sucked, you liked the car so much. glad your ok.

but its probably better in the long run. your lucky, you can still get the parts you want. this is probally the best way to have the car burn.

Bryan is so right on this one…
