Underbody rustproofing/prevention in WNY

I had my Tacoma done a couple weeks ago at Carwell…no hesitation even when they drilled into my < 15,000 mi chassis. Ready for Winter!

Get your appointments in guys/gals!

It will be busy now but the wait is worth having it done for those that didn’t schedule yet. Reminder, they start scheduling appointments in September and will book you months in advance.

I’m all set up for Nov 16th for my 1st apt on the new mazdaspeed3!

And, on a double positive, I just got a promotion at work so they’ll be giving me a permanent company vehicle to use as my daily driver (new jeep g. cherokee), so the Mazda should be able to see very little snow this winter!

From my knowledge, this is the best to do after the winter season… not just before.

Is that a question or a statement? Either way you’re wrong. As far as seasonal application, once every 14 months. Before, during, or after winter doesn’t matter.

The best time to do it is before your vehicle is exposed to any of the corrosive elements.

I do mine myself, all you need is a compressor/spray gun, picked up some fluid film @ $40 a gallon, 2 gallons should do all of my 3 vehicles

What do you do for drilling holes/ plugging them? Did you go to carwells the first time then just use the holes they drilled?

mine had holes already, however a drill wouldn’t scare me

Just got an appointment at Carwell for the truck I’m bringing up from Alabama next weekend. Appointment set for Nov 22. $104.95 Not a bad deal.

did 2 yesterday used 1.5 gallons and 1.5 hours of my time, not bad for $60

Bump just made an appointment at carwell for tomorrow. Figured I might as well before they really get busy. $99 for my fr-s

Been meaning to make my appointment as well, thanks for the reminder.

Just got home from carwell. They were fast and seemed to do a pretty legit job. Despite the fact of my car reeking like a greasy cheeseburger right now haha. Id say its pretty legit. They basically coat the under body, doors, trunk, engine bay etc in a pink oil type solution.

The only thing Im still uneasy about is them drilling holes in the top of my rocker panels of my 1 year old car  I know its part of the proper process but It still was hard to witness but other than that id recommend people go check them out!

Went back for my yearly application yesterday. Great service and I wasn’t there long…since my truck was already drilled it went much quicker.

New pricing for this year:

Car: $99.95
Mid-Size Truck: $104.95
Full-Size Truck: $109.95

They have some products for sale there too if you guys just want to buy the stuff and have on hand:

12oz Aerosol: $6.95
16oz Spray bottle: $7.95
1Gal bottle: $44.95

Returning customers got a $5 off this year as opposed to $10 off from previous years. I asked the manager why and he stated rather than raising their prices to detract new business they kept pricing the same as most other places have gone up 15-20%…not sure how accurate that is but $5 didn’t steer me away and they are already booking fast with new business so it seems to be working.

I’ll also state it rained like a bitch last night as I’m sure most of you saw. I asked if it would affect it any, he stated that if I hopped right on the thruway it may clean it out of the wheel wells slightly if I drive a long distance but overall should be fine. It’s the pressure of the water that can wash it away before it has a chance to “dry”… So naturally I tried to hit every puddle on the way home, stayed in the right lane when I could to pick up as much water as possible, all the way from Walden to Ridge and on into West Seneca. I got home and figured I had to have removed a bunch of it as LEAST in the wheel wells. Boy was I FUCKING WRONG. I wiped a paper towel on a small portion inside the wheel well and it basically came out as if this stuff was just applied…I’d say that’s a true life test.

Also, one last tip. I noticed initially that after the winter this stuff really does not come off easily from simply washing. In fact, a lot of the underbody visibly still had protection even before I took it in. This past summer I didn’t have much opportunity to actually clean my truck with work, travel, house stuff, etc…but I wanted to verify if what I had just learned actually worked; Dawn Dish soap will in fact remove the material with some agitation. When I got home I want to see if I could remove some of the previously applied material that was on the door jamb. It had been there a year and held up well. I got out a rag and with a little soapy water I was able to remove it with some mild persuasion. The coating underneath looked brand new.

Some back story is I had a '04 Ranger that I had taken in to Carwell a number of times. I had it for 5(?) seasons, therefore 5 coatings, and it never showed any rust on areas after the coating was applied. It even helped slow down rusting on areas already affected. The point is, in 5 years I never detailed the truck, Delta Sonic got it about 3-5 times a year depending on the weather, and when I traded it in there was hardly any cosmetic rust on the truck minus a few blemishes from when I bought it. I have absolutely no doubt it would have shined like new if I could remove the coating easily knowing what I know now…I never tried Dawn. Short of scrubbing it off I didn’t want to swirl the paint.

After this next season I will take before and after pics of my Tacoma. The more I use this stuff the more I like it.

Check out RustKote
The website is Rustkote.com
We are starting to open stores in collaboration with the Sears auto centers in Western NY.
This week or October 1st the stores in the McKinley Mall Sears and the Eastern Hills Mall will be open.

If you look at the “About” page on the website you can learn about the company and the great heritage the company comes from.

Right now we have Valpak coupons that are the best deal around.

We should be a Nyspeed vendor soon and have exclusive discounts.

Care to elaborate on how this compares to carwell? Tried getting info on the website but there’s really not much detail to it.

good to know. might have to do this on the new ride.

Well I cant say too much for Carwell but as far as Rustkote is concerned. The creator of Rustkote is a former Co-owner of Carwell and left to develop his ideal system to prevent rust. He believes that this is the best product he has every created.

The actual rust protection service is a 2 step process.

1st Step- Is the Bottom coat, which creeps and sets up into all of the seams and bends of the undercarriage. It then lifts any moisture off of the surface of the metal for it to evaporate or bead off. This particular bottom coat is developed to drip a lot less than traditional undercarriage sprays.

2nd Step- Is the Top coat, which has many similar qualities as the bottom coat. Such as, it will creep and form into every seam and crevice. It then prevents and removes any moisture from sitting on the panels of the vehicle. The top coat gets sprayed into the inner panels of the vehicle. For example the doors, rocker panels, and so on…

Both products use Proprietary Polymers which are unique and owned by Rustkote themselves. So no one else is offering this product.

Had my truck coated at Carwell this morning. In and out in under an hour.

It smoked pretty good for about 20 miles, then the overspray was pretty much all burned off.

And they gave me the mid-size truck price for my full size ext cab .

Details on where to get this pricing?

I normally go to the hamburg Krown Rust Proofing.

Just give them a call. I’ll be there getting mine and the wife’s cars done tomorrow evening.
