I agree for street riding, gsxr.
PC3’s are horrible on 6’s… you should just give it to me and I’ll take care of it … lol j/k. The R6 is the newer generation. The R6s is the newer year, but still the older body style (same as mine and rocket’s). I’ve never ridden anything other than my 6 so I really can’t say its more or less comfortable, but mine is perfectly comfortable for me (with the exception of long rides; but that is also due to some medical shit I have going on that doesn’t exactly help)
The PC3 def. helps with the missing midrange power. Can’t wait to get mine and get it tuned. I have a K&N filter and HR1 Riot Pipe on mine at the moment. Can’t wait to get a PC3.
What are your plans with it? Just street or some track as well?
Gsxr makes a better street bike. R6 makes a better track bike.
Why so set on 600’s?
There’s a reason for that LOL…they make a damn good quality bike. I mean thats like saying buy a Nissan because there are so many Hondas out there if we were talking cars.
But in all seriousness you shouldn’t be asking other peoples opinion on what bike to get, you need to check out both bikes for yourself see which one is more suitable to your liking, none of the talk about which is better for track or street really matters because nobody here is a pro rider so you are never going to push the limits of the bike, and not to mention they make every modification there is to make the bike easier to set up for track use or street use suspension and tuning wise.
Remember its YOUR bike get what you feel most comfortable riding. Quality of a bike isn’t an issue when buying any of the top 4 (Kawi, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki) Japanese sport bikes.
Logical thing to get for street riding is to get a street oriented bike instead of a race bred machine.
But for some reason that logic always get met with resistance.
Let me ask you this, are you comparing an SV style bike to the GSXR when you say street oriented?
Because if thats the case let me ask the following, what if he doesn’t like the looks of a sport “touring” bike, are you going to make his bike payments for a bike he doesn’t like the looks of?
Hell I never said he can’t buy whatever he wants, I just think it’s highly ironic that manufacturers spend billions to develop street oriented bikes just to have them looked over because of superficial reasons. Many come with bear identical or similar motors as their their track counterpart.
Let me ask you this, would you still look pick a supersport if there was another bike with identical fairings but the motor was oriented to have more midrange, rear sets were more forward and ergonomics were more forgiving?
People are mystified by fiberglass it seems.
If I could afford both I would own both…but if I was using it as an everyday bike then I would obviously pick the one better suited for street riding, its really just personal preference thats all I’m saying.
That goes without saying to everything in life.
There is the guy who uses his Murcialago as his ski/snowboard vehicle, there is the guy that rat rodded the brand new Camaro there are people who commute with a Hummer H1.
I personally like to have fun up to 60mph rather than after as that is the the range that covers 90% of my day on the machine and twins/singles are wonderful for that. Probably the only reason I still have my license.
Ducati 848 pearl white! to be diffrent lol ive had a slew of bikes 2 gsxr 600s a gsxr 1000 and my brother has had 2 r6s if you are new to bikes the gsxr is a way better choice for a first bike. the r6 is very cramped the stance is off they turn like a board but they accelerate hard above 10k.
848 are just amazing :excited . I can’t afford one, do hopefully this year I’ll have the next best thing :ninja
I am a bit puzzled by “they turn like a board” comment, R6’s are known to be refer to have “twitchy” handling, because they actually turn in too well. Which generation/model year are you refering to?
I highly recommand OP getting a PC and a tune if you decided to get the GSX-R, riding a lean bike is not fun…:lol
the 06-10 model after they turned the old r6 into the r6S ive ridden 2 with same handling and same poor result. i rode it 2 weeks ago just for a cruise with mk4 and got off it and rode his gsxr 750 and its a world of diffrence. may be my riding style but i am not a fan of the newer r6’s
well the reason being why i asked is because i had a friend who had a r6 and now has a 636, say’s he’d take the 636 any day over the r6 because of how it handled. I understand that i should get what ‘suits’ me best because i’m going to be the one riding it most. But a 10 min test drive just doesn’t seem to be enough time to be the deciding factor of choosing the bike which is why i asked here who has had what, and what do you like/dislike about the bike. As i’ve been reading the article that was the first reply it seems like the gsxr would be a more comfortable street bike because of the way the seat is as to the r6 where you’re more leaned forward.
Now there’s another factor that plays into picking a bike. I talked to the guy with the gsxr, his kid was playing and hit the bike and it dropped. nothing wrong with the bike besides a little fender damage but won’t budge on the price.
thanks everyone who replied i definitely appreciate all the help.
EDIT: bike will be used for casual street riding only, no long trips but not looking to hit the track at all anytime soon if at all
If you do get the GSXR, make sure to go over it with a fine tooth comb. Just a little drop can cause a decent amount of damage to a bike (bent bars, broken levers, etc). If the drop happened after he gave you the price then its pretty messed up on his part to not compensate for the damage.
alright so was supposed to go look at the r6 today and the guy litterally sold it an hour before i got there:banghead
so i need to ask another question, i found another 2006 r6 with an exhaust (pc3? not sure) but otherwise pretty much sock. The only catch is that it has 18k miles, but the guy is willing to go down in price to $4300.
I like the body style and everything pretty much about the bike, BUT its got quite a bit of miles. Should i just stay away from the bike or should i not worry about it much and go check it out? The bike’s about a 2hr drive. I dont mind the long drive im just wondering if the bike is worth looking at with 18k miles.
dont sweat the miles , as long as its been maintained . look it over , check fluids , tires ,fork seals , chain etc etc .
alright…
i hate to keep asking all these questions but has anybody have/rode a kawi 636? how are they?
what about the GSXR?
idk what’s up with people these days but noone likes to return calls/texts. I swear they put stuff up for sale but don’t want to sell it…:Idiots
