Was this in texas? The UE percentage varies from state to state. In AZ it was about 25% but for a year where in NY it is 50% for 6 months.
lol, you have definitely never cared much for modesty, that’s for sure.
it was but all states still have a cap that is not dependent on how much you made… which here was $405 a month
I got a raise and am 100% secure at my job, but it’s not my career (just until I graduate) and I get the pleasure of working outside everyday, even in -6 degree weather. Cool.
his statement was true, except he neglected to mention the cap.
Lost job due to “reduction of workforce”. I term it that way because an angle was used so they could skip calling it a layoff and gave me no severance package.
Ingram Micro FTL

[SARCASM]YAY FOR FREE MARKETS![/sarcasm]
I try
It’s at least partially the lack of “free markets” that caused many companies to panic. Its been the fear our government has instilled with rate cut after rate cut and bailout after bailout. That is what you call a “free market” tiger??? Free market means letting shitty companies fail and claw their way out of the grave they dug. Not…oh hai, I’m AIG, I can haz handout?
Clearly there needs to be some rules and adjustments but to try and band-aid everything because they are “too big to fall” is silly.
I was let go this past weekend… will probably be able to get the job back if the economy picks up… who am i kidding…
I’m talking in terms of “employment at will.”
AKA “Oh hai, a lot of companies in other sectors lost money so this gives us an excuse to lay off a whole bunch of American workers permanently and make the others work twice as hard with no raise because the supply of available labor is so great they’ll be happy to have a job”
yeah, the gov should just assign the number of workers a company must have…
This made me think of the garbage men several years ago that claimed they could do the job in 4 hours but should be paid for 8 because it is an 8 hour job. It really was hilarious. Can you imagine a plumber trying to charge for 8 hours when he was only in your house for 4?
tell me where the numbers are wrong then…
UE = “highest fiscal quarterly earnings spread out over a 6 month payout period”
(1/4 year = 13 weeks)
13 weeks/26 weeks = 50% (max)
if your highest fiscal quarter (13 week period) exceeded $10,530 ($405 x 26 weeks) then you are making less than 50% of your weekly take home prior to be unemployed.
AHHH. In that case I dig what your getting at.
Yeah everything is overblown and corporate greed is at fever pitch thanks to the panic and fear taking place. I’ve brought that up to co-workers and others before. Let’s bitch about the economy and how our profits are down. Let’s then cut workers so they have no income to buy the crap we sell. Then wonder why the cycle continues to get progressively worse. DUH
But the wages and production or lack thereof is quite damning in this country overall. Either way I say let the markets do their own thing and find perceived value. Don’t bailout to prop up. If that causes a flush, it causes a flush. The market ALWAYS gets what the market wants.
Keynes solution was the governments need to spend more ( ie make jobs ) . But what happen was that the money the goverment spent was held on to by the public …it realy did not work back in the day , it more then likely will not work now…
you can look at Japan in the 1990’s there growth was a mere 0.4% after there goverment bailed them out ( ie spent money )
Lots of common sense in this thread. I don’t feel so alone on my views of economics now.
Let the bad debt flush out and the bad companies go with it. All this “we can fix anything with bailouts” is only making the problem worse for the long run.
hope all you guys still are working MSN posted more lay offs to come
I feel it coming. VP of my company came in yesterday and gave a speech about them figuring out how to deal with the crisis etc… I’m 1 of 2 part time “temps” (been there for 2 years) and I’m only getting in 20 hours a week because of school, so my productivity has been in the shitter. Hopefully they don’t, but I wouldn’t be surprised…
