who thinks they went overboard with Classifieds?

with all the b!tching …have you guys talked about just getting more mods for the just classifieds like a extra 2 or 3 then you could aways go back to the old system …the mods could just hold hands more

So far a lot of bitching has gone on because people are making assumptions about what they can/can’t do instead of reading the FAQ and/or posing their questions to one of the moderators (who could give a better answer than just guessing wildly in a thread).

We are trying to do less babysitting. Since the general populace can’t control themselves, and we don’t want to spend all day getting pissed off/banning people, changes were made.

There will obviously be an adjusting period, but once that is over things will be pretty smooth. As has been stated before, there are other features we may be able to implement over time and their are other general site improvements we would like to make. We can’t devote the time to those improvements if we continue to have to chaperone people all of the time because they don’t have the self control to not act like children constantly. :gotme:

As someone stated before, the situation is what it is because what you as a communitiy has done previously. More moderation is not the answer. So now we are moving to less moderation (in some areas).

BETTER IDEA: how about allowing the poster of the classified to ban people from his thread?

If you don’t want to do it, let us.

Not necessary. As it stands now he has all the power over his classified thread that he needs, so there is no need to even have to deal with “banning” unwanted posts/posters from his thread.

you’re being close minded, as usual. There are a number of classifieds i have posted that i greatly welcome comments in, that i feel DIRECTLY influenced the sale of my item.

just because you came up with a shitty, ill conceived system, it’s YOUR baby, and you’re going to fight it to the death. Good job, bro.

Then they can PM you their comments, and if you think it helps your sale that much, post them in your thread. How many times do I have to say this? And then guess what? Your thread doesn’t have any unnecessary negativity in it because YOU control it!

  1. I can’t take the credit for coming up with this

  2. Obviously you are the closed minded one because you CONTINUE to bitch and it is now OBVIOUS that you haven’t even read the instructions or given the system a chance. You are just bitching because you can’t do what you want to do.

Everything you just mentioned can be done with the current system.

I’ve read the instructions and fully comprehend them.

Chitchat helps sell things - bottom line. It gets people excited and interested.

People want something more if they think other people are interested. It’s a human instinct that i like to take advantage of when i sell something. It’s not going to work if i post in my thread “PS: (xxxx, yyy and zzzz all are interested in this item)”.

This is why selling things on a message board is far superior to selling something on craigslist, because it’s far more dynamic and interactive.

What part of this concept are you having difficulty getting your head around.

I’ll repost this because you must have missed it despite me BOLDING it for you. This is independent of allowing me to update my thread, it’s about general human behavior, unfortunately, it’s also far outside the realm of your ego-bolstering moderating abilities. Thus, it’s removed from consideration.

Another example. When i was selling my elise, people cross posted it to a number of various forums. Would these people have still done something so thoughtful if they were not going to be able to be globally recognized for doing so? Would they still have sent me a PM saying “hey, i posted this on XXXX.org for you” if everyone else on the site wouldn’t know that they did such a nice thing? In a perfect world, of course. But this is NYSpeed. People like being involved with things, especially online.

[QUOTE=RuBiCaNT;793475]We’ve made some changes to classified section. The reason for this is that there is just too much shit going on and we are tired of having to clean it up as well as ban people.

Then don’t clean it up, If the person was trying to sell something and has been nothing but a total dick to everyone, its fair game that he pays for the flood of asshole comments coming in.

[quote]
IF YOU ARE A SELLER - You can create a FS thread but that is all. If you excessively bump your own thread which means if you exceed one bump per 2 weeks, you will be banned for 3 days, your thread will be deleted and you will lose your classified privileges for a month.

Sounds solid

IF YOU ARE A BUYER - You can read any thread in the classified section, that part has not changed for anyone. If you are interested in a particular item or items, you may PM the seller to make the sale or ask questions. THERE WILL BE NO REPLYING TO FS THREADS. You may also post a WTB thread which follows the same guidelines as the FS threads do.

Completely Ridiculous. If this person has beaten on his car or something is just not right about it. The seller then completely lies about it and says shit is perfect. The seller deserves to be called out. The Buyer having a question, 9 times out of 10 the same question will be asked so instead of flooding an inbox (which is limited to a amount of pms) posting in the thread would stop that.

example: Someone is moving out of buffalo and selling 10 items. 3 people are interested have many questions about it. thats 30 pm’s someone is close to the quota, well guess what half are not delivered. Now if you plan on saying well its the users sole responsibility to manage their pm inbox, you are completely ridiculous to assume this. Yes they should, but 1) who would expect 30 pm’s coming in, 2) most people here are not that technically proficient and may not realize that its a quota problem why there is no replies.

Buyers others not being able to post in FS is completely a load of crap

This will be taken care of. Stay tuned.

Exactly. YOU post in YOUR thread that question/answer that you think is important, to stop you from getting PMs about the same thing. I’m pretty sure we established that already. Everyone can read what you post.

 are you just trying to make up problems?

Do you know what the quota is for PMs on NYSpeed? 500.

500 PMs stored per user. If you overrun a quota of 500 pms, you should end yourself. That scenario you just posted would probably never happen. If it did, clean out your PM box. You can download those 500 messages that you swear you need to a txt file on your computer, the button is right there. If you are technically incompetant just ask for help, someone will explain how to (since you don’t read the FAQ which explains how to handle your PM box )

Wow. :biglaugh:

ive aswell messaged people and it said they had a full inbox.

the system is flawed

time to take the red pill ahahaha

i must have confused rx3, because it seems that his dizzying intellect has been overwhelmed; rendering him incapable of responding to my queries. :gotme:

Have you worked in customer service? Clearly not. I’m not saying by any means you should provide a ridiculous service for people but, I constantly deal with people that have quota problems with email.

Yes 500 pms is an awful lot, a few interactions over 6 months turns into a large problem. Someone could sit at 475 pms then sell something and 30 come in and the last 5 never make it (obviously they are never sent since the person sending the message receives a message saying “Hi over quota SRY!?!”)

I’ve had it a few times where I was sitting at 300 (when the limit was 300) and missed a few messages.

Yes you can download them to your local machine, but who honestly does that? Its like having email set up through imap stays on the server and accessed anywhere.

PM Quotas are going to be a problem, I guess one suggestion is that ever annoying 90% quota message, if none of you are willing to bend on the rules.

You could make an effort to end yourself though. Since I’m sure there are many over quota already, thanks though I’m glad you are the ultimate pm quota manager.

This place is becoming more and more like UBRF, what mod is gonna get banned first

  • click on their profile and email them.
  • provide a telephone number in your ad for people to contact you regarding your classified.

Yes I have. If they have problems they can ask for help. Isn’t that what you do? People don’t read the rules, ask for help anyway, and you assist as needed.

Yes, they are. It notifies them at the email address they provided when they sign up for the site. if you didn’t get the email then

-update your email address

  • allow email to be accepted from this site
  • adjust your spam filters

:ham: on you. See above.

Are you paying for the bandwith you are using to store your PMs? No? Then stop complaining amd clean out your box. . Seriously.

You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. But if you read the COPPA agreement you checked on when you joined, it says you are responsible for your own PMs, etc.

Let me guess. You didn’t read that either did you. But somehow this is our problem, and you don’t have to be responsible for anything you do?

You guys never cease to amaze. :picard:

Dude, you have complained more than anyone in this thread. You didn’t pay to use this site, no one is holding a gun to your head. You act like NYSpeed is paying you way through college or buying you a new house with our classified section. If it’s so difficult to use or you are that unhappy, maybe you should use Ebay or Craigslist or something else.

Newman - it was my idea so don’t blame Rick. I will hit you with a 64oz ribeye if you don’t shut your fucking mouth ;).

Your idea fucking sucks, man. Sorry to say.

your personality sucks so it’s an even trade.

Wow. Good one. :roll2:

Seriously though. I’ve raised numerous valid points.

I do not think that any change has been necessitated, but if you’re determined to change for the sake of change - allowing the OP to ban people/delete posts from that particular (or all of that user’s classified threads) classified thread is a far superior idea while encompassing all you had set out to achieve without any of the negatives. The only challenge is logistical.

Let me revise then, your girl pants, land rover and hair cut fucking sucks. Oh and your singing fucking sucks too.

I don’t fucking care if your ideas cure fucking cancer. If this proves to work then we will keep it. If it does not work then we will try something else, maybe your idea. Point being, this system works on national car forums with hundreds of thousands of people so I don’t see why it wouldn’t here.

I dont mind this. I just hope we wont get banned if we seem to forget the guidlines once, and make a post in the sellers f/s thread.

I know i will foget in a week.

If it’s not your shitty idea - simply something you stole from another forum, then why are you getting so remarkably defensive when i point out the myriad of holes in it?

Just because you’ve been outsmarted is hardly a reason to become so aggressive. Take solace in the fact that there are numerous people on the same developmental and psychological level as yourself. Forthekicks, speedped, Coveted Hilton, etc.
