who thinks they went overboard with Classifieds?

Wheres MikeRI when we need him???

Bingo.

I dunno, I don’t see the problem. Let people say whatever the fuck they want, just enforce it with bans.

Someone selling something could easily lie about something on the car like has it ever been tracked, or beat on, or whatever. Where in that case a friendly response from someone to question the flaw would be useful. That way the seller can’t hide it.

If somebody PM’s him and he doesn’t post the new info because it will hurt his sale; you know what they are going to do??? PM the moderator of the classifieds board, who then will PM the seller to ask his side of it, and have him edit the post and when he doesn’t edit the post, delete the post, and when the post gets deleted its a cat fight of bullshit of he-said she-said drama that was caused because the mod’s decided to not take their responsibility in babysitting each and every f/s thread to keep the classifieds forum at peace.

That clearly is much more babysitting than making sure a FS thread doesn’t go to 15 pages of bullshit fighting…

For someone looking to buy a dsm, yes. But i mean like him vouching that he did work on a said car that is for sale would be a great selling point and give the buyer a sense that things were done right obviously.Gary obviously knows a great deal about them and could add some very good information, that the seller or buy themselves did not know.

:deadhorse2: its :bsflag:were being :newman::violin:

its going to get us no where.

finally a use for all the faces on the forum aswell.

That’s hardly easily compared.

I just throw that out that on the plate cuz I know that’s the first thing I would do if the seller wasn’t updating any info regarding his sale.

I COMPLETELY AGREE!

When I start looking for an STi in late 2008, one of my biggest concerns will be how the car was treated. Interaction on the forum F/S ad, will tell me a lot, be it autocrossers that have seen the car in action, guys that have seen the car tracked to hell, etc.

Are you fucking retarded? I mean seriously. You stated your opinion, MULTIPLE FUCKING TIMES. Until it’s proved that this system is NOT going to work, give it a rest you poor oppressed being.

Calm down, ahahah maybe you should read it again ebfore you take your period out on me.

Or maybe your retarded.

It says this is beating a Deadhorse, meaning no matter who bitches or says anything else, its nto going to get us anywhere, so its all fucking pointless.

Get a Grip.

Remember this is just the internet.

I’m against the new policies for the following reasons that have been stated:

Where’s the credibility? If another member has seen a car of part for sale to vouch for it, it makes the buyer feel much more comfortable.

Other members asking questions helps a good deal. IE whats the offset of the wheels? Or something more advanced as “How much CFM does the blower push at 8psi?” Yes the seller SHOULD know, but he may be too lazy to look it up, or just too busy and not able to be at the computer all day to answer the same question through 10 different PMs.

Others may have the same item and chime in to say “this part really improved my et.”

Also, some members post for friends that are not on the board. It can be a great deal to somebody, but who wants to answer a million questions through PMs for a sale that is not yours?

I don’t like some of the ideas of the new policy, but you never know, it may be a better way to handle sales so I’ll see how it works for me.

Credibility is huge for me when I’m buying or selling an item on here.

It’s one thing to be a dick / start shit (I’ll admit, I’ve done it). It’s another to not “have a say” - if I wanted listing-info-only classifieds, I’d use ebay/craigslist. The whole POINT of forums is interaction…

I agree with this, and I also agree with 02svtfocus on the credibility points he made.

I like being able to read peoples opinion about a car or a part. I mean it’s been taken to the point where someone has called someones car for sale a piece of crap, when they could be 100% right if they’ve seen the car or done work on it.

I’m not sure who brought it up but if a buyer/seller could moderate their own classified ad I think it would be the best thing for the classifieds section.

And, I’m not angered/flustered by this although it seems it will make selling things a bit more difficult/not worth the extra effort.

I feel less inclined to pm someone then just to ask in an open thread.Does anyone feel the same?

I have to agree. Newman makes some good points too. Discussion is the reason that some of us look to the FS thread on this board at all. There are many avenues to find cars and parts, but not many that you can discuss the benefits and drawbacks of something. Also, on here you can typically find out weather or not something has been overused, or abused. People often vouch for parts, i.e. installed properly, or improperly. I’m sure a compromise can be met.

So far i’ve read a lot of reasons why this system is flawed and a tiny handful of reasons as to why it’s better. I’ve also read a lot of posts by moderators saying it’s “a GREAT NEW THING” without any supporting detail, other than “we put a lot of thought into it”.

I think the think tank that put this one together needs to be dissolved… as the tank obviously lacks reasonable thought.

Also congratulations to rubicant for simply locking this well-thought-out poll: http://www.nyspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43374

and not making it an addendum here.

 @ really making a concerted effort to not look like a douchebag. :roll2:

+1, but shhh your opinion might get you banned:P

One more for the, “This is stupid” camp.

9 times out of 10 if a classified becomes a big mess it’s for one of three reasons:
1: The seller’s asking price is way too high.
2: People have had bad experiences with the seller in the past.
3: Someone knows some bad history of the item being sold that the seller myseriously failed to mention.

In all of these cases a community (that’s what this is supposed to be right?) should look out for it’s members and raise the red flag. This isn’t eGay or CraigsScamList, it’s NYSpeed where you’re supposed to be held to higher standard as a seller because you’re not selling to complete strangers.

And don’t think this is helping sellers either, at least not ones offering legitimate items. Take my old for sale thread for my Fiero. I had tons of comments vouching for the car from people who had seen it in person at autocrosses and knew how much work I had put into sorting that thing out. When you get comments like that from respected members it carries a ton of weight with potential buyers.

On the other hand, had I listed it with no mention to it’s racing past (pretty much my autotrader ad btw) I would fully expect someone here to call me out with some links to 4 years of SCCA autocross results, and maybe some pictures of the car at the TMP track day. Knowing that any member can comment publicly on your ad keeps you honest.

Finally, I’m sick of the comparisons like, “Do you expect someone at Best Buy to tell you you’re making a stupid purchase”. No, I don’t, for several reasons.
1: Best Buy isn’t a community.
2: Items at Best Buy are brand new, with a warranty, and I can return them for 90 days.

Feedback on a sale is what makes buying someone on NYSpeed so much safer than eBay or Craigslist. Eliminating it makes this just another home for scammers. Huge  to the NYSpeed mods on this one.

I agree with the majority on here, I like to see the interaction on the classified threads.

Damn no edit and my “selling someone” typo.

Anyway, here’s a great example of the community at work in a FS thread.

http://www.nyspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39337

Vandit comes in like the douchebag that he is, tries to crap on the thread, and the community backs up the seller. Tons more positive comments that would help sell the item than negative.
