Cliffs-

I went out to clean up and take pics of my car I am selling, I was careless and backed about 2 inches too far out of the driveway, some bitch comes by, makes no attempt to miss me, sideswipes me, we trade a minor amount of paint, she instantly calls some dude from a bodyshop whos at my house in 2 minutes giving me $1500+ estimates, I kick them off my property, call insurance and advise them of potential scam and now I wait

Ok so today I am going to go out and wash off my Caprice to take some pics, I live directly across from the local highschool so its always tough to back out because people are pulling in and out of the lot all the time.

We theres a guy to my left thats directly across the street just sitting there in the mouth of the driveway, so I am watching him and hes not moving, I look over my right shoulder and dont see anyone, I look back to my left and start to back out, I look back to the right one more car and see a car coming about 3 to 4 lengths away so I slam on the brakes and as she goes by the car clips the back of my car and stops up the road a little

I am like fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuck! so I pull back into my driveway and get out of the car and walk up to the car in the road, I cant see whos inside and I am just standing at the window for about 30 seconds, finally some woman emerges and I ask her if she wants to pull into my driveway…

so she pulls in and I am looking at her car, I hand her my insurance info and tell her I am not particullary worried about my car hoping she will call it even and drive off

So she has a 2000 Dodge Interpid (?) as I am wiping off the road salt theres some purple paint from my bumper on her rear door/quarter and bumper cover, I eye balled the car from every angle and dont see any dents, dings, creases ect ect

I tell her if its less than $200 and she wants it fixed I will work with her and would prefer to avoid the insurance route

So as I am talking to her shes like “I just picked this up from the collision shop” and she says something about calling someone (I am not really paying attention I am trying to gauge the damage) next thing I know like 60 seconds later some dude is pulling into my driveway and he gets out and low and behold hes the dude who owns the collision shop

So he stands there and hes like “we have to repaint the entire door and blend it, thats like $800” and “the rim has some scuffs, thats like $400-$500” and hes like “oh I can feel a crease” and blah blah blah

I pull out my camera and snap a few pics of her car and his tone changes

I tell him not to BS me, I said the rim is fine, it has a little scuff on it and it dosent need to be replaced, he starts going on about refinishing it

I tell him I dont think I even caused the scuff on the rim due to the position of damage on my car and he goes off in a real nasty tone “yeah I think we should call the cops”, " I need to get the sheriffs down here"

I told him to go ahead and try and milk me for whatever he wants but I’m not an idiot and to get the fuck off my property

So they left with my insurance info and I have the womans name and #

She didnt have insurance info with her and I noticed the car had some sort of weird temp registration on it

I called my insurance right away and told them I am not filing a claim but to be on the look out for hers and mentioned all the shadiness

When I think about it the direction she was traveling if I was too far into the road the front of her passanger side should have hit the rear of my passanger side

instead her rear hit my drivers side bumper

I didnt back directly into her as theres no impact on her car, I strongly believe I stopped right at the white line on the shoulder and she pretty much sideswiped me

she obviously knows the guy from the autobody shop and I am thinking its some sort of scam

I mean the dude was up to $1500 in estimates before I stopped him

My car is ok, it put a few scuffs on it and broke the plastic chrome trim but anyways I have a claims adjustor coming on Monday just to cover my ass and make sure my damage reflects her damage and I have the attatched pics to give them

the dirt and paint make the metal look wavy in a spot or two but trust me there was nothing of the sort

I hate the cops here, those pricks would have given me like 8 traffic tickets and 3 felonies if they showed up

i hope u took a pic of the registration, the license plate, and the rest of the car as well.

and a pic of her license, or atleast saw her license to see if it matched her name

Not being funny…but that should just buff right out…doesnt look like anything other than exchangins some paint.

honestly I could care less, if I dont hear anything more of it I will be happy

the damage to my car is minimal and it has more than its fair share of dings and scrapes to begin with

If you don’t want that collision guy to screw you over then you’re better off letting your insurance handle it. Then don’t they have their own claims inspector assess the damage and it’s true cost of repair? At least that’s how my accident worked out when I got hit. The person who hit me, their insurance claims inspector assessed the damages and it came out to be about $100 less than what the collision shop originally quoted.

no but if they are being that shady i would expect more shady-ness.

i had my whole front end bonnet repaired along with an entire front end spray for 400$ lol, how is that 800$ ?

that guy across the street could have been a witness, she didnt have insurance, im sure the temp reg wasnt legit. and if u hit your brakes, and then she hit you and u hit the rear of her car then she obviously swerved into the car. she was probably doing something she shouldnt have been, or trying to do an insurance scam.

depending on the insurance company, they usually have a specific collision shop they work with, usually they are the highest and the insurance wont pay out more that what this shop quotes

yes I 1000% hit the brakes and there was no one coming the other way, she either wasnt paying attention or hit me intentionally, she said she swerved but I watched her right after she hit me, she made no effort

yeah I told my insurance do NOT let her pick who fixes it because theres something very fishy

maybe I should fall down in Wegmans and then before I am even up off the floor have my Dr come in and tell them how long I need to be out of work and how much money I need for my pain and suffering

Did anyone catch the part she told me she had JUST GOT THE CAR BACK FROM THE COLLISION SHOP??!

Interesting… The person who hit me was insured through All State (IIRC) and they gave me the option to take it any place I wanted to. Since the damage was very minimal I just left it at the nearest collision shop that I brought it to after being hit.

they may have done this behind the scenes then, idk. it happened to me that way though. but it may have been because your damage was minimal.

or it may have been, (talking about me), that the insurance companies shop gave x,xxx amount of dollars, and then we could take it anywhere.

either way the insurance company had a specific shop they dealt with. im sure all companies are different. i believe this was state farm

all it really did was break a shitty piece of molding, the bumper has been sunfaded and scuffed since I have owned the car, 30 mins with some rubbing compound and some superglue should make it as good as new
