anyone watch the news tonight?

it said in the news the two hondas were caught racing on markham at speeds of up to 180 km/h. that’s why they were crushed.

Scribbles, that is a great article was it posted or is it getting posted? because that is the truth right there we will all be labeled as street racers because we have a big exuast or rims or wing and its rediculas when we are the ones making track events to keep it off the streets

the same night i was watching the version on global news and the female host stated in the after the special comentary between the two hosts “perhaps the solution is building a track closer to toronto so these people have somewhere to go?” male host “hahaha” …

and yes the crx had an auto so i assume it has a d series non vtec and the eg hatch appeared to have a B series.

Honestly, if you all don’t want to be fined/arrested and have your car impounded/crashed, don’t drive stupid (ie. recklessly and at speed).

BUT

This is an act of community profiling. If any one was to say that “black men, between the ages of 18 and 60, driving high end luxury sedans and SUV’s, are more the likely to engage in drive-by shootings” the outcry would be tremendous!!!

What we need to do is get organized… AND I MEAN NOW!!!

There are many on this board that are involved with magazines, there are others that can have an easier time rallying groups and even still others how may have a connection to an MP or two. Lets get the word out. Lets post on every forum that we are a member of.

Lets pettion the city for time and space, of which we have a right to, in order to have a rally or march or whatever.

BUT

This must be clean, orderly and without incident. If anything or anyone gets out of hand, we will blow it.

We could start with a convoy of as many cars as we can get, drive EXACTLY the speed limit and obey the laws. We should make large banners the read: I AM NOT A STREET RACER, BUT ME AND MY CAR ARE BEING PROFILED AS SUCH. We should try to get the attention of anyone and everyone who would listen, and tell them OUR side of things.

LET US START NOW:

Put your name (ScreenName/First name) on the list, just like any event list… Contact Drifstar OR MeanStreetSpeed&Custom… Contact your MP… Contact the media!!!

This is exactly what needs to be done. We need to show the public, the media and the government that not every performance enthusiast is an evil kitten kicking baby killer, or eleged “street racer”.

Most of us drive responcibly, and do our best to prevent bad situations from happening.

Not only do we need to protest, but we need to do our part in reducing street racing as a whole. That means if you see anyone or have any friends that decided to go off from a meet or event to drift, drag, or generally act inapropiatly to try to stop them and tell them to think about it. By ignoring the laws and doing whatever we feelike just to spite the Gov we become what they want us to be. We have to be the concious and do our part in helping the situation so that laws like this are not necessary.

Our story needs to be told before it becomes a media frenzy.
The big winner right now, are the studios that has produced the FnF3 movie, because they are getting rediculous amounts of free publicity at our expence. Although these movies are entertaining and fun to watch, they bring about an unwanted element to our hobby.

  2. Scribbles, James

this is exactly what needs to be done, this list needs to be continued on to all local forums, weither it be honda, toyota or other nissans, their going throught the same thing we are. this cant be any small gathering to have an impact we need hundreds of cars to show up, all for the same reason and then we MIGHT be noticed by these politicans.

yea I think this convoy is a good idea, everyone should have a banner alongside of their car and the route chosen for this needs to be where alot of people will see it

Oh don’t start spouting bullshit about the government, this has nothing to do with which party is in power. All you’ll do (already have done) is elicit responses from trolls who also don’t know jack shi.t about how the government works. It was the Liberals who initiated the legislation before the election, if you’re going to choose sides. If you’re looking for a scapegoat, blame every politicians predisposition to pander to whatever the public is currently up in arms about. Frank Klees is an MPP for the PC Party, which has nothing to do with the federal Conservatives, and eveything to do with this crap going on in the GTA.

Secondly, the convoy won’t happen, and it’s dumb idea. If you want to get something done, talk to your MP and get suggestions and what you’ll need to make it mean anything.

^^^

Why wouldn’t it happen?

And this “convoy” wouldn’t be the end all be all of our endvours. If you had bothered to read my post, I do believe that I stated to get in touch with your MP.

FUTHER MORE

Wouldn’t it be “cool” if we could get an MP out to Shannoville on Drift Practice day?

I have seen this all before as well, and everytime it comes up there is a new law made. If it continues, we could see some very strict laws come into play… Would you like to live in a country (or province) where auto racing in general is not allowed, and I mean even liscenced events!!! There are such places in the world.

The U.S. has “clunker” laws; these laws state that if a vehical is left sitting for a certain period of time, regardless of it being on your property, it can be reported as a “derilect” and towed away and crushed.

This had the “old school” muscle car guys up in arms! And many of us have parts cars and project cars that have been sitting in and around our houses. Would you like it if some one towed away your sh*t?

We have to be able to manage ourselves, with HELP from the police. We are a group and have to be represented as such. Our “tuning” dollars still count in the wealth and growth of this country and we just want to keep it fair and we NEED to chatch media attention… The convoy may help… The rally may help… An MP would be the best way…

^^^^^

According to SEMA, in the US alone, the auto aftermarket brought in $34,000,000,000.00 in 2003.

The sales tax on those items alone is reason enough for the government. The SEMA Action network often defeats legislature like this in the US.

What is necessary is a clear definition … ie a mission statement.

Street racing needs to be better defined, not broadened.

I’m sorry, but cops for the most part wouldn’t know their differential from their sphincter.

By granting these same cops the power to make a judgement on something they don’t understand, only bad can come of it.

I happened to be in an area well known for street racing. I was in my 71 Javelin, just hanging out in a parking lot.

Cops showed up, scared everyone away.

My attitude was to stay put - I hadn’t done anything wrong, and figured if I ran, it would just make me look bad.

I had cops combing my car in no time. One dickehead cop too young in his boots to even grow his own bad-cop mustache was being th emost condescending prick imagineable. His partner brought out this giant dental mirror-looking apparatus and started looking under the car.

He then told me I was in “for a long night” … says aside to his partner “This cowboy doesn’t have catalytic convertors”

Put yourself in my shoes. I’d just put up with 25 minutes of flack from this self-important twinkletoes. What are my options? Go to jail, go to jail, go to jail … or hmm … go to jail.

CPEC is a bitch. Even though legally my record has been cleared, when the cops punch me in to the computer, right away something I did when I was young and stupid will still be there.

I had to chew on my tongue for a few minutes, then try my best to politely “inform” them that the law states that my car must only be equipped with the emissions devices it left the factory with and they’re all there, both of them LOL.

But no no, he continues on, still in my face, asking me who I am to tell him about the law.

Grabbed a pen and paper, asked him and his partner for their names and their badge numbers, that I felt I was being harassed, and that I would lodge a formal complaint as soon as I got home.

That, was not a good idea. Now, they’re determined to find something, anything to nail me for.

He even tried to give me a ticket because the car was 100% primer and my ownership said silver.

Eventually they told me I could go, and followed me the whole way out.

I don’t have a problem with rules, if they’re clear cut enough that I know whether or not I’m following them.

By giving the officer the power to make a snap judgement on something that 95% of them don’t understand, we have a problem.

I’m sick of people saying “This won’t do anything, your convoy won’t work”

Join the problem side of the fence. It’s not necessarily about expecting a result so much as it is the comfort that you didn’t take it lying down, face first, without the decency of lube or even dinner.

And get off smokers’ backs. I’m so sick of hearing this shit. Guess where the billions of tax dollars the government collects from us go? To non-smokers. So quit whining. Fat people and drunks cost the government way more than smokers. And I pay for your health care, the health care of all the fatties, gastric bypass for them, and the millions the drunks cost the government. We tend to die off pretty quick. But too bad only 50% of us actually ever get sick from it.

Great, a smoking modified car owner. I might as well go kick a nun.

And this whole business … why don’t they just build a track in Toronto?

Maybe because they have been trying for over 20 years? But people keep getting together to defeat it. They’re afraid the noise will keep them awake at night or lower the property value of their houses.

Every year at least two groups try and have Downsview turned into at the very least a drag strip. Dodge and Ford have both done test drive events there.

And those 37 lives. I don’t mean to say they’re inconsequential … just not applicable.

Two 17 year old kids, one in an Explorer and the other in a Minivan race down the street in front of their highschool. They crash, kids die.

How did modified vehicles cause that?

Two kids racing high end cars hit a cab driver

How did modified vehicles cause that?

Stock LS1 Corvette

Again, not to deny the tragedy, the couple killed were making a left hand turn against traffic. The driver failed to judge the speed of the oncoming cars. Had they not been “racing” he still could have been killed, it happens all the time.

What bothers me the most, during this whole hooplah, how many people have been shot? 54 gun murders in one year vs 37 people that were killed in accidents caused by bad decisions in ten years.

54 > 3.7

Considering that of those 37, so far two have actually been linked to the cars they describe as “modified for street racing”

So, 54 > 0.2

If it’s bad decisions they want to target … how about women that drive into rivers at clearly marked T intersections, killing her kids, because she was on her cellphone and failed to notice the road ends? It’s the city’s fault for not having guardrails there, sorry I forgot.

More people die every day from idiots on the road, and they decide to pass legislation that looks past the actual driver being at fault. It’s cellphones, it’s racing, it’s cars …

No, it’s idiots who feel invincable, are constantly in a hurry and don’t pay attention. I think if they actually published the numbers of people killed on the roads daily in Toronto, it would put how small of an issue this is into perspective.

I didn’t mean to insult you personally, I’ll admit, I skimmed after reading a bunch of posts that sounded all too familiar. Lots of talk.

It won’t happen unless it’s something big. You’ve got to stir shi.t up man… take that convoy and park it on Queen’s Park for an afternoon. I mean right on the lawn. Block traffic. Do something huge to draw attention. I’d come for sure.

MR200, I’ve been in politics for a few years, and I’m part of an organization that has gotten some shit done back near Ottawa. I’m being a realist here.

Just so you know, I’ve already been in contact with Parliament Hill for a couple days about this whole thing… we’ll get something put together.

Well with combined efforts and no bickering, we could actually do something for the good of all of us…

And as we already started too (it has been in the works for a year) we are hosting a toy drive… And it would be great if everyone could help out and possibly bring in other causes.

this is exactly what needs to be done. we need to show that there are responsible people out there, regardless of the stereotype created by reckless people. we need to show we are deserving of respect and that those idiots on the road don’t accurately represent us.

good stuff dan. i’m there.

I won’t let these guys push me around for my age, the way i look, and ESPECIALLY for the car i drive. count me in.

I think were getting ahead of ourselves here. i mean nothing has really happened yet, people are being pulled over left and right, well not yet anyway. There has to be at least one person up in ottawa that knows what he/she is doing. but if this does get out of hand im definatly down for stirin up some shit!

^^^^

The main point is to do something BEFORE it comes to people being pulled over left and right.

We have to show that we won’t be thrown in with the dumbasses who are reckless… Arrest them! Chase them! Don’t say I’m a street racer 'cause my car may “look” the part. Don’t arrest me 'cause I’m male and drive an import.

We have to teach them about the cars, and even possibly help them write the law!!!

Doing 199kph on the 400 gets you a healthy ticket, provided your doing it by yourself.

doing 115kph on the 400 and someone attempts to overtake you doing 120kph… gets both cars crushed and both peole a criminal record…

I don’t see drunks who are commiting a criminal offence getin thier cars crushed… I’ve never even heard of a hit and run driver getting his car crushed. Yet potentially a cop can see my rotary engine, not have a clue what he’s looking at ( which has happened 100% of the time a cop has looked under the hood) and apply this ’ modified car = crusher and criminal record’ scenario…

I like that logic…

Seriously , IF the bill passes, which is unlikely in it’s present form, but plausable. The bill is unformed and too vauge… any defence lawyer can challenge this law and probably win… along with a healthy counter suit against the goverment under the charter of rights… ( BIG BUCKS )

get all the true none racers of the car clubs in Ont and que to drive to ottawa same day same time, all with banners like that.

I think a point would be made and the media would have no choice to cover it

The point is that ANY large gathering in protest (with the proper permits) will gain media attention…

We have to be sure that we don’t do anything stupid and that the cars that will be there can’t be hit with “illegal mods” tickets or Emission tickets.

block the 401 up in rush hour like the farmers did.
