New Drive Clean tests

^^ yup another good point.

There will always be ways around laws…

and yah i highly doubt theyd get rid of “hot rods” … thats like saying sorry u cant masturbate anymore… its illegal. lol … shits way to popular. like drugs… why else are drugs legal

to the members who keep saying that they’ve done the e-test as “hot rod”. how do you do it exactly? i went to a few different canadian tire last time and told them to do it as hot rod as the engine was swapped but none of them managed to do it for me. they charge me the test but its just a normal test, so freaking pissed.

so do you need to get some sort of document from the dealer saying that the car does not equip with the engine that came with the car from factory or do you just walk into certain drive clean place that they automatically know what to do? if thats the case, which one can you recommend? please help me out, iam due for the test again.

i want a solth!

Its an option that pushes all the limits up. Just have to select it on the computer when the enter your information. Crappy Tire and other business dont like to do it for NO reason other than just being difficult. You dont need documents.

Honda Civic comes D - series (if you have a D-series that is built or any D series set up they will have to do regular testing because series didnt change)
Honda Civic w/ swap B,K, or H (they can see the swap just by popping hood and then can just click the option of “Hot Rod” because it is not the series that was match to the car from factory)

I was told that from my Etest guy. He said its not issue with Hot Rod or Grey Market which my silvia got tested under.

^I keep a letter from nissan stating that the 240sx never came with the sr20 in north america… and that is how I convince the unwilling the hot rod test…

it helps if you buy dealer parts and are polite to your parts guys…

im just gonna do a e-test this dec and when my sticker expires next summer i’ll grab a two year term one, maybe by then 1989 models will be exempt from tests

Its anything older than 88 and I haven’t heard anything about that changing. ^

yea i know but they just recently changed it to 88, im just hoping maybe in two years time they will keep changing the year… maybe… lol either way im buying myself another 2 years, plus i have fam in thunder bay i could just register my car there who knows…

^^ 1988 and newer will always need an e-test as per current regulations. Not likely to change any time soon… sucks cause I own an '88 Toyota.

^ truth.

These franchise shops generally don’t do it, just because they don’t’ know what the hell they are doing half the time.

You should find a private garage type shop that does them, particularly one that is known to be Real car guy friendly, ie manager/owner is a REAL car guy. If those shops still want paperwork, you can always go to Dixie Nissan and get them to sign a proper form saying that this isn’t the stock engine, and is in fact a sr20 out of a 180sx/silvia. I know people that have gotten hot rod done with no documentation, Wikipedia and sometimes just pictures of stock engine vs engine in there now.

Hot rod test are not hard to do, if you go the right kind of shops. Ie. big chains, and shops setup specifically just for etest usually don’t do this stuff.

useful piece of information! so does anyone have contacts to certain garage/shop that i can just walk in and get this e-test done?? please leave me the name, address or number, pm me if you don’t want it public. thanks for helping out!!

with all those who did the hot-rod test, no one can forward me a contact?? :frowning:

There’s no magic contact for it. Go to a dealer and ask for a letter saying your engine didn’t come in that car. Take letter to any e-test place.

when i went to canadian tire at major mac and 404 the young guy there was just like yea eh sr20 well test it as a hot rod…he may have had a 240 lol

^^^
Filipino?

He’s a sonling. Good guy. Has a bunch of 240s.

did you try the nissan dealer for the letter…?

can someone please find out and confirm that we will be able to pass with are s14 zenkis with sr swaps as i went to a place today and they told me im fucked as i have the plug in that fits i have a 1995 240sx with sr20 and now i don’t know what to do cause no one ive went to really knows 100% they say on the site 1997 an older but if we have obd2 and the plug then we have to have it pluged in during the test, also can someone find out if they will still have the hot rod or not cause if not we may as well sell or shit right now and get 87 supras and 87 rx7s that don;t need to ever be e tested and can be swapped with anything.

your fucked. I have $500 to rid you of your car problem…

that dose not answer my question i have over 20 k in my car and either i sell it now for 10k and buy a 87 and older car to mod up or someone knows that well be ok

Your 95 will be a two speed idle test, reguardless if you have an 0bd2 port. However not all shops do the two speed idle test so you’ll have to figure out which one near you does.
Hope that helps
