ok so i don;t have to worry about obd2 is what your saying? but what about getting hot rod 2 speed ideal? and that goes a question for everyone that has a modded car from 88 to 97 as 87 and under never need an e test
The shop I’m at will do it!,we’re in St.catherines.
Pm if you want the address
1995/96 are obd1…
I thought that obd2 was standard in 1996?
the 96 year they were mixed, some obd1 some obd2 I believe. I remember reading up when I had my 96
There were introduced in 96 but where standard in 97. so late model 96s should have the port but still considered a obd1.
this is probably a stupid question but what’s to stop someone from just disconnecting the exhaust from the headers/turbo and doing the 2 step idle test?
What do you mean it’s still considered an OBD1? I just picked up a 96 parts car with an OBD2 port, is there something different between it and the 98 OBD2 we have?
there needs to be sufficient flow of exhaust detected to proceed I believe.
One of the requirements of the etest is having no exhaust leaks. I’m 150% sure the inspector will here the leak from a disconnected header.
Thank god for JDM cars being black market and not in the etest computers. Pass everytime legit lol.
lets keep this thread up dated with whoever is going for e tests now with there modded srs and or stock srs and see if anyone is able to pass or not
Passed on Hot Rod Status, 2 speed idle - no issues for me, and I’m good for the coming e tests as long as I keep my car lol.

Go to a Performance/Tuning Shop that does swaps etc…tell them to write you a letter, fuck the dealerships, most of them are clueless and won’t do it.
-
Try a bunch of shops, ask them…cuz again, many are clueless and won’t do it.
Happy New Year!
For my white 180 was no problem, didn’t even have to get a note for having the sr.
Black 180 they made me which was different, Ended up writing it no problem. Passed no problem, since they test JDM cars as Grey market.(1980s Standards)

I did it with no paperwork, just say it was 2.4L and now a 2.0L turbo and u want a hot rod test… thats what i did… lol or w.e the fuck motor you swapped in.
I’ve heard there were changes that will make it easier for grey market cars to pass? running a stock RB26…I’ve never had it tested (not running) but I know a lot of people have had plenty of issues with RBs when it comes to legally passing
As a soon to be licensed drive clean inspector. 97-88 are two speed idle tests. If your car makes over 300whp you most likely will NOT pass a two speed idle test. Your car will be tuned to run too rich for your supporting mods. You can hope that you pass. And just because it is two speed idle doesn’t mean you can’t cheat and not have a cat. Cats are always needed. For everyone 98-07 I believe is the cut off. If you have a standalone (pfc, aem, jwt) ecu you may not pass because lack of proper communication with sensors. The testing for obd2 is just a readiness test. Ensuring that everything works. Yes there are cameras. Yes I take pictures of your plate, your vin and your check engine light must be on when the key is in the run position. I also have to take a picture of your mileage. It is live on demand help with the camera. For instance if I can’t find an obd2 plug on a vehicle. I can click the screen and someone is there live to tell me where the plug is. For the first little bit getting around these tests are going to be hard. But give it some time. They have also upped the fine for tampering. It is $55,000 to the tester and $250,000 to the shop for “tampering”. Hope that clears up a lot for everyone. No I don’t have my license yet. And we don’t have the new machine yet. Cheques just got sent in.
alot of vehicle are failing the new tests. even new cars where i work, even if your mil is not on, as stated ^ its a check on all emissons related systems. if your vehicle has misfired once and has not
gone thru 2 complete cycles without you will fail. you left your gas cap loose you will fail. its a real headache right now, i can see alot of early 2000’s cars coming up for sale that people dont want to put any more money into to pass etest.
Ya same here. Had a 2011 we sent out because we’re lacking in the machine. And it failed. You’ve gotta drive the cars before you run em so it has a good recent reading on it. You’re probably right about the cars going for sale due to lack of people wanting to invest money into emissions repairs because of how costly they can get. And the mil has to be on when doing the test.
This really seems like over kill to me. Not only is it a money grab, but now they are making it way too strict. What if you don’t have a check engine light and your car is 1996? Fuck Toronto and GTA.
