Tinted Windshield

Can I take off the huge ass, ugly State inspection and reg stickers on my freaking windshield? That bullshit interferes more with my vision than any tint.

Copy and paste the whole thing dude, ya missed the intro line.

(b) No person shall operate any motor vehicle upon any public highway, road or street:

(1) the front windshield of which is composed of, covered by or treated with any material which has a light transmittance of less than seventy percent unless such materials are limited to the uppermost six inches of the windshield; or

(2) the sidewings or side windows of which on either side forward of or adjacent to the operator’s seat are composed of, covered by or treated with any material which has a light transmittance of less than seventy percent; or

(3) if it is classified as a station wagon, sedan, hardtop, coupe, hatchback or convertible and any rear side window has a light transmittance of less than seventy percent; or

(4) the rear window of which is composed of, covered by or treated with any material which has a light transmittance of less than seventy percent. A rear window may have a light transmittance of less than seventy percent if the vehicle is equipped with side mirrors on both sides of the vehicle so adjusted that the driver thereof shall have a clear and full view of the road and condition of traffic behind such vehicle.

(c) Any person required for medical reasons to be shielded from the direct rays of the sun and/or any person operating a motor vehicle belonging to such person or in which such person is an habitual passenger shall be exempt from the provisions of subparagraphs one and two of paragraph (b) of this subdivision provided the commissioner has granted an exemption and notice of such exemption is affixed to the vehicle as directed by the commissioner. The applicant for such exemption must provide a physician’s statement with the reason for the exemption, the name of the individual with a medically necessary condition operating or transported in the vehicle, the specific condition involved, and the minimum level of light transmission required. The commissioner shall only authorize exemptions where the medical condition certified by the physician is contained on a list of medical conditions prepared by the commissioner of health pursuant to subdivision sixteen of section two hundred six of the public health law. If such such exemption is granted, the commissioner shall make a record thereof and shall distribute a sufficiently noticeable sticker to the applicant to be attached to any window so shielded or altered pursuant to such exemption.

(d) The commissioner may test any window for a person who has been charged with violating this subdivision. If such window is found to be in conformity with this subdivision, a small label attesting to the conformity shall be affixed to the window tested.

I have mine done in 35% and love it. Helps with glare and the heat on the black leather a ton!!!

I had them tint over the reg and insp and will just cut them out when I am ready for new ones. they stand out more but look perfectly normal.

Pic in overcast/rainy weather:

Direct sunlight…

KDubs, you should remove the tint because you are a danger to all shift518 members!

:rofl

For anyone that cares, here is mine. I probably should have did what KDubs did with the stickers, but when I get new ones I might just have the dude add a little in the corner. The line won’t bother me as much as the non-tinted area. The dealer screwed me when they put the inspection sticker WAY to the right.

Here is some pictures. First pic is no tint. In the other pics, you can see where my friend left it untinted for the inspection/registration stickers:

Small video of me driving in the country (pitch dark out). As you can see, not much difference (camera takes a little away from the overall light output - I really didn’t notice a difference at night). I can still see pretty far ahead:

Ya I know that was just on the previous page so I couldn’t get it in the picture, that’s the list of no nos for tint.

I think it looks odd with the bottom corner cut out. :crazy

Agreed, looks horrendous

I agree it’s not the best solution and could have been executed better but I got used to having stickers down there, so it’s only a matter of time before I get used to that. Cars that drive by me or at night you can’t even see it from the publics perspective. Only way to see it is from my point of view or looking directly at the windshield like in the pictures. Like I said, the dealer f’ed me by putting the sticker so far to the right. When I get my new inspection sticker next May I’ll move it in the corner and slide the registration over and then have it fixed.

When a cop seeing the tint cut out around the stickers, you’re fucked. Should of tinted over the stickers or whatever kjugs did.

This is true.

That’s the thing. You can’t tell just driving by the car because this car sits a bit higher up so at the angle that another driving views my windshield, you can’t tell. You can only see it if you’re standing near the headlight or sitting in my car.

And either way, you always take a risk getting ANY tint. So if I get stopped every couple of months, I’m ready to pay the fine(s). We’ll see how it shakes out. I’m not too worried.

Dash not fading + cooler temps inside when the car is just sitting = worth it.

should have just paid $20 for a new inspection sticker rather than half assing the whole tint job. looks terrible.

Have had truck pulled over for the side window tint 3 times with no mention on the windshield to date.

I did this prior to tint to get them lined up perfectly straight going up the windshield instead of across. Was well worth it!

Yeah, well like I said, could have ‘executed’ it better lol. If anything I’ll just get it redone at a later point. It was pretty cheap for one window so whatever.

Your driving a 30+k LUXURY auto, not a maxima. Just because you can dribble doesn’t mean you can play…

looks like shitttt sorry man…and when a cop looks at your reg and sees a giant lighter rectangle on the window he is gonna fuck you big time

lol @ “custom”

That looks like SHIT. And you can only see where your headlights are pointed? Niiiice.

And since when can coupes not have rear side windows tinted? I thought it was the rearward-most doors that had to be 70%, but the rear fixed quarter windows could be anything. What about cars from the factory that come standard with tinted tempered glass? I suppose that’s legal since there isn’t a ‘film’ over it.

I’m about to take the tint off my back 3 windows too. I am not allowing this piece of shit state to attempt to generate revenue from me for idiotic V&T violations.

If I hadn’t ordered custom plates from NY already, I would just register my car in VT and get my entire car tinted 5% and tell the Colonie Police to go fuck themselves and find something more productive to do.

I’m sorry, but no camera on earth can reproduce low light visibility that your eye can reproduce. There is a small loss of visibility at night with tint. It’s negligible. The pictures in the pitch black don’t do it much justice. KDubs can vouch for this.

And as for the square, I’m already used to it. Doesn’t even bother me. So yeah…go ahead make fun, I’m fine with it the way it is although I admit it could have been done better.
