Underbody rust prevention

lol suckers, as stated above i never do it… my car is 12 yrs old and spotless… its how well u wash it really

edit: ill take pics if any of u non believers want

i believe it.

How much $ do you spend washing it each week?

had the GF’s Scion done last week. checked around felt the oilyness under the doors and the frame. got my 10% off. under 100 beans for a spray. could smell the stuff burning off of the exaust for the first 2 days… but it wasnt the usual oil burning smell.

I wish i had sprayed my wrx. i might still do it.

:The oily mess? I heard this referenced a few times, but its blown out of proportion IMO.

Did you actually work on the car extensively? Or did she just drive it? Because it’s fine if you don’t work on the car or the most you do is an oil change. But lets say you decide to remove your tranny, do you really want that gunk all over the place?

Just saying for most people budgeting 100 bucks for washing is better than spending it rustproofing. Like if you dont wash it whats the point of having a rust free chassis.

That spring I did fluids, brakes, & bushings. So, no, not extensively

:gotme:

I did it every other year, worked well.

Made my appointment for the TDI next tue… its a southern car so Im hoping to keep the underbody clean till I kill the motor

IM pretty sure its nothing that couldnt be cleared up with some superclean and a power washer. Oily bolts > RUSTY bolts for working on stuff.

I heard this stuff works well for what it is:

Bump, this shit rules. Made pulling a 25 year old engine out of my car go like butter.

BUMP again. So it seems the oil is the way to go as far as undercoating? How would wd-40 hold up? Say getting the gallon jug and going to town w/ a spray bottle.

Lol… pretty sure WD would be gone in about a week, less if it rained or snowed.

WD-40 evaporates, and it’s horrible. Biggest misconception with the stuff…

CarWell on Broadway near Union… $80. Also a rust-free guarantee on all new vehicles who continue to use their product every year.

I also sprayed my undercarriage/suspenstion with Picklex 20 <— a freaking awesome rust inhibitor/convertor that i grabbed from a government job.

Just booked an appointment with Carwell…$95. Not bad IMO.

Anyone know of any other specials going on? I think I had Schmidt’s rustop my car a couple years ago for $100 but don’t know if that’s still their going rate.

edit- Just found Schmidt’s online price advertised as starting at $109.95

I allowed Schmidt’s to blast away at my underside a few weeks ago for only $60!

i got a spray gun and took the used oil at valvo and sprayed the undercarriage of my winter beater, inside engine bay, and inside doors and rockers, gettin it a 2nd time sunday morning

so you sprayed used engine oil all over your car?
