One year and a half driving.
No accidents.
No tickets.
and no, I don’t really drive way too fast.
I drive like a grandma most of the time because I’m not a big fan of breaking my car -.-
I’m not really looking for the speed6 because it’s faster.
I’m in to it because it has Traction/stability and AWD. and full airbags etc…
I don’t really race.
As far as snows goes, I was thinking about it. But really, how much longer is my car going to last? Granted, I’ve owned it for a little over a year now… and the only thing I had to put in it so far was a serpentine belt… and some oil changes, a tranny flush to keep up with prev owners scheduled crap, and some new tires…
Thanks for the input by the way.
I tried Geico about 3 months back, but I got refused for lack of driving experience.
I’ll try again though.
edit The ride home was about a two hour drive through unplowed backroads btw -.-
edit Our family’s insurance agent set me up with progressive by the way. I guess she shops around for the lowest price and gets you that. But I’ll look around myself actually.
How old are you? <18 insurance is going to be awful, especially on something with “speed” in the name.
That said give Alliance Insurance on Dick Rd in Depew a call and see what they can do for you. When I was young and stupid in the higher risk pool they were always able to find me much better deals on insurance than I could find on my own.
As for snow, when I was going to college at Buff State I’d make the drive up 81 to visit family quite regularly. FWD tercel with all seasons driving over the tug hill plateau on 81 and they set the records for snowfall in NY pretty much every single year. Never stuck, never in the ditch, driving in whiteout conditions more times than I can remember. Unless you’re driving like an idiot there is no reason to “fear for your life” while driving in the snow in a fwd car with decent tires. Out in the Rockies where you might get 15 feet of snow in a single storm, get buried, and die of exposure maybe… but not here in NY.
lol yeah I know, I wasn’t really too worried, since I was in my car… it has heat, and it has food :] So I can just go slow and take my time. But it just got aggravating when I’d have problems making it up large hills and such.
My insurance went up when I got mine. I pay like $90/month, 500 ded. I’m 29 married and no tickets or accidents. The wife’s 97 escort, which the speed6 replaced, was like $60/month. The car was also worth like 1k.
I don’t think they have a category for a speed6 though, on my renewal it just says “2006 mazda mazda6”. I think a normal mazda6 will be the same price.
It’s just because of your age and the price of the new vehicle. I don’t think it’s going to matter if you are buying a 15k mazda 6 or a 23k speed6.
Call around, insurance company quotes can vary by alot.
Plus I don’t know if you were planning on buying new or used, but if the ms6 comes with the summer 18" rubber, you are going to NEED to buy at least a set of all seasons or something for the winter. Which will run you another $500-800.
Or you’ll be using that insurance sooner than you want. AWD or not, the stock tires are completely unreliable with any snow on the ground.
When I was 18 I bought a new 96 grand am gt, I think it was around $18k. Some places wouldn’t even quote me a price. I ended up at progressive paying like $300/month.
I have an Evo 9 and pay about $140/ month with progressive. I’ll be turning 26 in March so i’m hoping it drops. Thats with my defensive driving course i took (which knocked $60 off every 6 months) I have points also on my record.
holy shit! You have to have some serious driving record issue, or zero credit. I mean I have had a few >2x speed limit tickets, car broken into 4 times, stolen once in the last 3 years, plus a totaled vehicle about 7 years ago and I still pay half of what you do.
try this out… get the VIN for a $500 car and call geico/progressive and tell then you’re thinking of using the 500 car for your daily and the evo for weekends.
I bet they quote the total for both cars at like $200 less for a year.
plus you get a beater to run to the parts store in.
my evo is like $1600/year by itself. with my bmw as primary and the evo as secondary I pay $1400/year.
(I have a couple tix on record)
Yea, I also totaled my 05 wrx a year ago and still pay alot less.
When I was younger I had the same problem with insurance being insanely high, to solve this i ended up just going on my moms insurance. Its a bit risky i’ve been told but it worked out for me
